Hmmmmm. Note to self:

Turn cell phone off when doing illegal activities or any other activities that the government may frown upon.

--Scratch that, change to:

Throw cellphone into river.

If Good Fellas taught me anything, it was to always use the pay phone.

And "Casino" went a step further; Cover your mouth when talking outside so the FBI Lip-readers can't see what you're saying.

I can't see this thing catching on though really, at least not here in the states. Sure, there will be a large enough body of technical geeks who will want it and think it's cool, but to most people, the idea of puting anything in their arm, especially something like a computer ship, will creep them out I'd think.

Identity theft is rampant, the old people(the "Greatest Generation") that are skeered of technology are dying everyday, and people are becoming more and more okay with the idea of limiting personal freedoms and having their privacy invaded upon if it means we can stop the "next attack."

I promise you this, give it another 5 years and this will start getting kicked around as a good way to keep your identity safe since it's biometric and someone would have to cut it out of you to steal your identity. There are already stores in the south testing out a technology that allows you to pay for services with your finger print. There are clubs in Vegas that for a price will insert a chip in your arm that allows you access to VIP areas. Doctors are pushing the idea of having chips put in peoples arms that will hold all their medical records. It's going to happen. It's just a matter of time.

Could be right...although I read a link somewhere on another board about how people have already figured out how to walk by you with a hand-held scanner and "swipe" your info.

Not surprising actually...it's what every scanner in every store is supposed to be able to do too.

It's like wearing your ID on your sleeve all the time. I think that has some serious drawbacks, no?

It could be used for anything from your consumer habits to a wet wire human interface on a global scale. The network which you and I are currently using is already in place.

Google Search for Brain Machine Interface Look for anything mentioning DARPA founders of DARPAnet predecessor to the internet.

All there is needed is a pre-meditated scripted attack (al-queda, kkk, hamas, christian patriots, right-to-lifers, tree-huggers, insert name of group to bash here) for this to be generally accepted in the interests of either national or global security.

Besides we are all in databases. The chip will just localize you on a global map for example.

And of course you have all these stupid f***ers that say "I don't mind it because I have nothing to hide." God I hate that mentality. Can I search your asshole too since you have nothing to hide? Would you mind then?

LOL.

Maybe I'll have it implanted in my pecker? If anyone gets near that, I'm going to know about it.

(Makes for an odd visual...the thought of waiving it over a scanner at the market, lol.)

The slightly more serious answer is that I'm guessing it would require bio-metrics and not just the run of the mill laser scanner used in the local retailer. Obviously I'm talking out of my ass at this point, but I have the feeling these chips will be much more advanced than just a cereal box bar code.
