Our town lists all the things that are being voted for in the newspaper. Like, fire department funds, road maintainance, etc. But the thing is that it's listed in the back page of the newspaper, in the classifieds, in the smallest print. I personally think this is done so people don't see it, and they won't vote. |
I'm going to guess it has more to do with the law actually.
I know when it comes to opening a new business, you are required to run the name of the new business (the DBA, "Doing Business As") in the tiny Classifieds section of the paper for a certain amount of time in order to allow anyone who has a problem with you using that name to come forward and contest it.
Who knows; Maybe in your area (all areas for all I know), ballot issues are required to be run in the paper so that it can't be argued later that the info wasn't avaiable to the voting public.? The fact that it's in small print wouldn't be surprising either if this was the case, as this would be purely for legal purposes that these ads are run...and fine print is almost always used where it's a matter of meeting some legal notice requirement.
