For the Priceline whores use www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com to find out what you should be bidding. (The last site is dreadful but has loads of datapoints)

Personally as I do the frequent stay nonsense (Hilton HHonors, Starwood Preferred Guest, Hyatt GPP etc) I only book through the hotel's website. The things I do for free nights, shiny cards and access to hotel clubs
