THE REVIEW
I started my weekend on Friday afternoon - picked up Jason and Keith and started eating Keith's Killer Jello Shots as well as making Killer Mixed Drinks. Headed to Bleu for the Opening Party with Mathew Johnson. He was amazing - hard, tight techno beats and I had a blast. Wandered over to a local pub for more tunes post-2am before running an errand and then passing out. Delays on the Canadian side caused me to meet the TOTAs down at teh Festival. Saturday day at teh Festival was meh - the best I heard was Magda's set at the Beatport tent.
Went to the Min2Max Tour show at Masonic Temple and had a blast - Magda, Marc Khoule (?), and Hawtin made my night. I danced hard, long, and fast. They tried to get Richie to cease playing and he was like "fuck you" and kept going even when they turned all the lights on. They ended up turning them off 20 mins later 'cause he just flat out refused to cease. Left around 6am, picked up the TOTAs and went back to the Haus in Royal Oak.
Slept in till noonish on Sunday. Got up and back to the festival we went. Wandered around listening to tunes - have to say that Liebing/Speedy-J's closing set and Glaude's afternoon insanity were the best from Sunday. Went to the City Club show and the tunes were great. The sketch was off the hook though and we ended up bailing around 4am. Back to the Haus to pass out and enjoy some more quality sleep.
Got up around 4pm on Monday and made it to the Festival around 6pm. Wandered again and Adam Beyer's set was the shit. Saw Jeremy Caulfield in the Beatport Tent - funky techno! Nitzer Ebb = wtfgwar@demf?!?! I didn't like Hawtin's closing set Monday night as much as the set at Masonic. It was neat to watch Vince exclaim "I get it! I finally get Hawtin!"
Some memorable random moments from the Festival:
1.) I wasn't in there long enough!
2.) JESUS CHRIST!
3.) Some guy?
4.) I enjoy being stuck in my own head.
5.) Hey Jason, is this how you properly auto-exfixiate someone?
6.) Not the mama.
7.) You know, your style of dance meshes well with techno - funky techno.
8.) I NEED TO MOVE TO GERMANY!
9.) And lastly, FUCK TRANCE!
10.) No pooning or boning this weekend - I am dating and sleeping with my friends. But spooning is okay.
I had a great time this year - musically, far better than last year and well organized. The after parties were too many so the quailty was down as well as the amount of people at them. Hopefully, people will know better next year. 15+ parties on Sunday night = way too fackin' many.
Nat - YOU are MY sanity, dear. Glad you had a great time - you def should come back b4 I leave for the wild wild west and just hang out.
Vince - I had a great time hangnig out with you - I laughed my ass off so hard.
Jenn & Masis (?) - also rockstars - great company, great times.
Penny - MUAH!
J-Ho & Keith - my guys, reunion weekend = success.
Fran - great to see you again hon. And I will try for NYC b4 I leave - we shall see.
I am still excited for Lawler in two weekends - just let me sleep a little bit more and I'll be alright.
Kris

OMG.. laughs @ the riverdance. That was effn classic and caught on tape..lol
well, I guess I should start somewhat of a review now
Masis and I got there at around 830pm on Saturday due to him having some car problems along the way forcing him to be stuck in Toronto until about 4pm and not getting to my place until 5 but we finally got on the road.
Once parked and on our way, the ticket line for the festival was pure insanity and what we thought was going to take hours to get through ended up only taking 20 min. Apparently if you look lost and spaced out such as I did, they will let you get in line infront of a shitload of people... whatever works!
Anyhow, finally finding Kris & Chris and into the festival we go. I only managed to catch a slight bit of Holden and then wandered around for my first time experience. We ended up at the mainstage where Robert Hood was playing and we were certainly diggin the sounds there. At about 10:30pm we decided to head back to the car and get ready for Holden and Fair @ Bleu.
Got to the club around midnight and Fair was still playing. I wasn't really in the mood to groove yet but walked around, checked out the place and found myself a spot on the floor for Holden to take the decks. All I have to say about Holden is he is absolutely amazing. I have seen him several times in the past and have never experienced what I did on Saturday. The man had it going on and so put together. I had VIP as well, so I spent some time up there at the end of the night and just enjoyed sitting there watching him play. At the end of the night, Masis and I managed to snag our pic with the man himself. Such a nice guy all around and so humble. Definitely worth the trip to Detroit right there
Sunday rolled around and we all went out for a nice breakfast then off to see Glaude play. It was a hot one outside but I couldn't tear myself away from the beats to sit in the shade so away I went. It was my first time seeing him and he definitely put on a show. It was too bad when the sound died in the middle of his set but he got it back up and running and proceeded to get back into the same tune which was good. After that I sat for a short time in the shade to cool down and then Nat, Vince, Masis and myself wandered around the grounds checking out Kenneth Thomas along the way as well as some of the other tents. Then came dinner....
Kevin Saunderson came next... we only managed to catch the last 30 min of his set but as I was walking up to the mainstage I hear him getting ready to drop Preach. So I start walking a little faster so I could dance to Broken Inside. I wish I could have caught more of his set as it was just a teaser for me, but next time I won't be missing him. ORB came on after where Nat and Masis were totally diggin the sounds while Vince and I kinda sat there like kids with our "can we go now" antics Sorry Nat, your children were not behaving very well at that moment but we wanted to go see Josh Wink. So that is what we did. I really enjoyed his set. He was playing a very minimal funky/erie style set, but again only got to see about an hour of it cuz I didn't want to miss Liebing and Speedy J. The beatport tent though really needed to be open. It was incredible hot in there and almost unbearable at times for me but I managed.
Liebing and Speedy J was the last for the night. They started off pretty slow and I couldn't get completely into it at first so I laughed at Vince as he recorded some pretty funny scenes from the party.. lol (that dude, eww what was he eating :nervous and found Mike (e*motion) finally. Then they started to pick it up and before long I was on my feet dancing for the rest of the night. They had tons of energy and the crowd/vibe was amazing. Of course I can't ID anything so I can't give you details, but I had an absolultely amazing time. I really didn't want to leave and I wanted to go to the Beyer afterparty since I had to work Monday and wouldn't get to see him but off we drove home and I got home at about 4am.
I had a great time partying with you all this weekend.
Kris... thank you so much for all your hospitality. You are one of a kind and a blast to party with. The morning chat Sunday was hilarious too
Nat.. always a pleasure having you around. Gotta keep those steps going. I don't think I have seen you bust it like that before
Vince.. what can I say.. you certainly are a funny guy... lots of laughs to be had and good times... this will occur again sometime soon
Mike.. finally got to meet up with you but you got there way too late.. always a pleasure and we need to chill more often. What's next on the list?
Keith, Jason, Fran, Chris, Cale, Lisa and Josh.. it was a blast and I am glad I got to meet some new peeps and party with some old friends. I know I am forgetting people but there were people all over the place so sorry if I have forgotten you here
Well, yeah it was a long review. I just couldn't stop writing once I got into it, but if I am still here this time next year.. you better believe I will be at DEMF. What an experience!
