I'm never amazed to the ignorance of Americans when it comes to many things, especially on the topic of gas prices. Recently gas prices have substantially risen in the States to record levels and every news agency has been giving the story and public outcry much attention on the news. Everyone is calling prices here outragous and are demanding the government lower taxes, hence prices, or release some reserves.
But what I find funny is that gas prices here, as compared to most foreign countries and historically to our own (adjusted for inflation), are not bad. For example today I paid $2.11 per gallon, which ends up being about $0.55 per liter. I love whenever I get the opportunity to explain these facts to people here who are outraged at the so-called egregiously high prices. They seem to shut up pretty quickly once I have explained that prices are not that bad... yet. Maybe so many Americans should stop buying those damn gas-guzzeling SUVs!
