I use the Mackie HR 824’s in my small bedroom come studio and my wife says that she can hear the dam things coming down the street.
I’ve played loads of CD’s through the Mackie’s and you cannot believe how many CD’s where poorly mastered and produced.
Lots of CD’s I don’t listen too now because they sound so bad, on my car CD player or on my home stereo they sound good?
Normal speakers are boasted in the mid range and don’t produce certain frequencies and make music sound good.
Music I had made that sounded well on my cheap monitors sounded good on my Mackie’s, but the music that sounded bad on my cheap monitors sounded bad on my Mackie’s.
I played thriller and bad by Michael Jackson and I knew the mastering was spot on and the music sounded amazing and the bass sounded tight on these babies.
I played music through them that I knew sounded good and they sounded the same on the Mackie’s. To me these monitors don’t lie and they are completely honest.
They can handle anything you throw at them and more, they just yawn and say bring it on.
They go dam loud and really go down so low you really think there is a sub, they can handle bass and I’ve played hip hop reggae and all types of bass heavy music and they just yawn.
I played some bass heavy keyboards and vst’s through them and the whole place shakes; I think the house will fall down and the Mackie’s will still be playing
I’m getting the sub to go with the Mackie’s and I play the music loud and my 14 year old daughter tells me to turn the music down.
Get the Mackie HR 824’s and feel the power! Don’t have them at full volumes for long as they like to slap you about a bit and you ears hear bells.

For what it's worth: I have the KRK RP-6 monitors, I can really recommend them, probably my best purchase ever.

The KRK RP-8s are very good or th money. They are a little more "Forward" Than the Mackies, it comes down to personal preference and your room.

My reccomendation is to find somewhere that has a great return policy. Try one set out at home and then the other, make a choice and then enjoy.

Buy the best pair of monitors you can afford, and use softsynths until you have money for a Virus B. This is only a suggestion.

Thank u guys I really appreciate all your feedback I'm gonna head over to Guitar Center and try out the Mackies and everything else they have for monitors. I'm kinda torn as to what type of Synth I should start out with, beit a softsynth or hardware. I have a newly built, water cooled computer that can handle the programs so I'm good to go there. I know its still hard to beat out hardware as far as the warmth and fullnes of sounds are concerned, but in the end, I guess both soft and hardware are needed these days and can compliment each other.

Get either Propellerheads Reason or Fruity a shot first. Quite a few professional producers nowdays are software only. And as far as software sounding "thinner" than hardware - thats's total BS. it all depends on which VSTi and how you program it. If it sounds thin - layer it. Something like Pro53 can tear a new a-hole out of any monitors without even trying too hard. z3ta is also known to shred quite a few measly cones

Give these few a shot. I'd recommend starting out with software anyway. This way you are not laying out too much cash upfront, unless you go totally nuts. Get a decent hardware interface, nice MIDI controller like CME if you want a decent feel on keys or a cheap synth with fantastic keys and sound like AN1x - and off you go.
