and thank god he didn't take the advice of his more level headed Generals. I don't know about winning easily, but certainly, invading Russia was his biggest mistake. That, and not being able to put the British out when they were down in 1940.

Both my grandfathers are vets, one was with the 1st Canadian Army in Holland and Germany from late 1944 until 1945. He died in 1978. The other was a Royal Navy pilot, participated in the Mediterranean Theatre from 1942-43 and against the Japanese in 1945 after healing from a shard from an AA shell through his thigh. He has never walked properly since. I have asked him many times how many men he has killed and to this day, he will not say.

Anyway, respect to all these men. We hear it often, but they were the greatest generation in a long time. I doubt we will ever come together like we did from 1939 until 1945.

great post my friend.

We look at what our soldiers did for us back then and i can guarantee half of these so called Canadians don't know anythign about it. They abuse our system and take everything for granted.

Sometimes i think in order to become a citizen of Canada you must do a 2 year military service. I think more people would appreciate Canada for what it is worth.

It's funny on the T.V. today all I saw was that 666 crap...not one thing about D-day...people should have respect...

I thank/pray for those who fought for our freedom.

Great posts! Greetings from NYTA!

Two grandfathers in the war; I will always have them in spirit. One from Moscow, died of his wounds shortly after his daughter (my mother) was born in 1946. The other from southern middle Russia - lived to be 90 with medals of honor from the army. I hope Russians, and all Europeans, Canadians, Americans, etc, will never forget the war..

It sickens me that more people care about Paris Hilton and certain TV shows and shit these days.

"Oh but this didn't affect me at all."

Oh is that so, tell me, would you be watching your precious MTV if you spoke German?

Holy shamoly! I knew that we had all lost a lot of men, but the numbers in one day still gets to me.

I always get emotional hearing stories about WWI, whether its because of the enourmous courage stories, or the pain, suffering and inhumanity.

Who knew that humans were capapble of such extremes on both a positive and negative level??

as a citizen of this world...
as a young french...
as a student in history...

as, simply, someone being fascinated by all that happened in the D-Day...

respect to the soldiers who lost their lives in the french shores...

when i came to omaha, gold, juno, sword... 3 years ago... i had something like... thrills, tears... i want to do my 5 next years of studies on the D Day, cause, you know... when you're walking on a beach where, 60 years later, there was this terrible battle... you want to do something
