Alright, I just got home from work not even 2 minutes ago and here I am posting on TA SO WHAT!!!!
I got to Spundae around 10:15 pm and found it empty! Cody Lee was dropping a darker, techy set to lead into SvD. I have seen Cody Lee three times and he has always done a great job. I really liked how he was into his set, jumping up and down and dancing around, it got me pumped up and ready for SvD. The last 4 tracks Cody played were banging!!! They flowed into Svd perfectly, there couldn't have been a better opener. Great job Cody!
SvD took over promptly at Midnight and wasted no time with any filler tracks to build himself up (once again, thanks to Cody) I can't ID his first track but I know it from an Identity Mix. SvD was totally into his set from the moment he touched the mixer. He started his set off on the techy side and built from there. I would say that his set was 40% SvD productions or some sort of SvD edit. I really liked his mixing, it wasn't the robotic mixing that we have all become accustomed to, it was different. He would lock up his tracks and then kind of drop them into each other rather than mix them. I wathced him "mix" a few tracks and he is very very active on the EQ's. The structure of his set was spot on IMO, he started out techy then went into a very bass driven section and then finally into a banging end at 136 bpm. I loved every moment of it, I didn't even get upset when he dropped SOS, it's his bootleg so his is allowed to play it!!!! plus if you ignore the vocals the track has a great bassline. The track of the night for me was Ronald van Gelderen - This Way. SvD had a huge smile the entire set and you could see that he was really enjoying it. I danced up a storm and loved it! After his set I caught him in the middle of a photo session with a few TA's, shook his hand and thanked him for an amazing set. Later on in the night I caught up with him outside and chatted it up with him and a few TA's. Dave, you were right, this guy is a class act. He was so down to earth and genuinely listened to what we had to say. He was very polite and actually engaged in the conversation rather than just listen and let it go in one ear and out the other.
I will add more to this review after I sleep a bit. SvD + No sleep at all + work ='s brain dead.
