PS: this should make for a handy resource for those "It must be good if it's popular" arguements some of the kidz like to throw out.

Yup, "Cotton Eye Joe" was a huge hit in my primary school dance parties. Shit as it was, it still brings back good memories.

Oh yeah. Used to love dancing to that when I was about nine. After I heard 2 Unlimited's "No Limits" I was a sucker for anything dancey like that, and when you're nine or ten the most poppy crap alive is alright.

My personal nomination is Armand Van Helden - Koochy. He butchered a classic record (Gary Numan - Cars) into the most mindless, stupid fucking house track ever.

I agree. What a spoiler. What was that robot saying anyway? "I want your koochy and I'll make it squirt" Was that supposed to be rude?

I'm sure a lot of people loved the Hampster Dance. If you're brave, why not re-live the experience just one more time!

Dee-da-dee-da-dee-da do do...

I only found a sample of a track using the Doop! melody, not of the original:

Beatbangerz - Doop

Especially for you, Jan. Especially for you.

You still coming over for Awakenings this year? Remember me to change my cell phone ringtone beforehand.

The entire genre of 'banjo house' should be confined to the bargain bin of history. Rednex's 'Cotton Eye Joe' was its apotheosis, a record which made the Grid's teeth-gritting 'Swamp Thing' sound like 'Smokebelch II'. "Been out a bit for Cotton Eye Joe, I been married a long time ago," sang the Swedish vocalist, blissfully unaware that no one had a fucking clue what he was on about.

this should've been #1. mixing dance and country music is a sin.

For your information Rednex recently did a comeback and sang in the Swedish eurovision contest but that song was HORRIBLE. Even worse than Cotton Eye Joe.

This is actually their second comeback. They did one six years ago with "The Spirit of the hawk". That tune is actually not bad and borrows heavily from Dance 2 Trance - Power of american natives and Peyote - I will fight no more forever

In 1995 they actually made a love ballad called "Wish you were here" which many Swedes still rank as Rednex best tune.
