Good mix but I don't think this stuff is THAT different from the modern stuff some people just despise on here...I mean you can hear influences even if this stuff doesn't have the "3 minute breakdowns" like some epic trance does. I even hear some breakdowns here and there in this mix, nothing huge or over the top. I actually prefer stuff like this, as I am sick of the big theatrical breakdowns and super saws (I was only big into epic for about 4 years..if that)
This stuff has some goa sounds, but it is more along the lines of progressive trance. Sounds like the stuff Oakie played in 98, like in his essential mixes, and Sasha (and Sasha & Digweed) and early Tiesto (like in the first few Magik CDs) and others. It's progressive trance really...I like it overall, more enjoyable than that Nasa set, really because this is similar to a lot of the stuff I listened to back in 98 and 99. I can identify with this more, maybe because i'm not into the really fast stuff with booming basslines and acidy noises. More of a melody, harmony person with smooth beats and bass that isn't so overwhelming. It's got a mixture of stuff that is more energetic and other stuff that is chilled, and that is what I definitely look for in trance mixes..variety.
Maybe it's not quite as overtly melodic as some of the stuff I enjoy, but still emotional, uplifting, euphoric...and the stuff I like now definitely has influences, since it's progressive that i'm more into. So i'm really not the ASOT or epic type of person that some people make me out to be, because I was into it for a few years and still enjoy some of it, but not nearly as much. It's quite possible to like both....and mix both in sets.
