Hah. I wish.

I'm addicted though...

I have an original 1978 speak and spell sitting in my basement, as well as a speak and math, and I have a speak and read in shipping at the moment!

It's so addicted!

But good came of this, I just banged out a track last night which uses my speak and spell samples, as well as my SpeakNFreaq samples:

Check it out. I would love the reviews. It's in a very rough form at the moment so I would like some constructive critisim on the mixing etc.

Next you should circuit bend a DC-input so you don't have to run it off batteries all the time...and maybe a line-out too

The beauty is. The 1980s era of speak and spells come with line out and DC input!

And even the original 1978 models had DC inputs, but they don't have line-outs, which im currently working on incorporating in my 1978 model.

Make sure you listen to the tunage!

wow man...that's awesome

any kind of advice as far as reading material that i might check out to be able to do stuff like that? hahaha. i mean if i opened up a speak n spell...i'd just break it just anything you might suggest for understanding a little more what i'm looking at there in the gut shot...

even just some general subjects...electronics is a pretty broad field. don't really know where to start, but would love to understand electronics like that...i'm very impressed

Well. It's really simple. You only need to know basic basic basic stuff about electronics and circuit flow to bend a toy.

As long as you know what the components do (ie, capacitors, resistors, potentiometers, switches etc) it's really easy. The fun part is finding all the strange noises. By short circuiting the toy.

A great guide for circuit bending (which I found later, after I finished this project) is Reed Ghazala's "How-To Circuit Bend Guide"

http://www.anti-theory.com/soundart/circuitbend/

It gave me some good ideas for future projects. Including using photo-resitors to make some cool theremin like effects, by wiring photoresitors into the pitch circuit of my next speak and spell.

That guide gives you some good pointers.

Check it out. He's an odd duck.
