first, i'm not a boy.

second, the financial landscape of major league baseball is crazy, the owners will kill their own sport. the biggest problem with the old nhl was that players were making more money than they were worth. i really like some of the new rule changes and the cap will keep owners in check. the game has become more exciting and can now draw in casual fans. financials are key; using the nfl as an example, its success has a lot to do with parity throughout the league and that is due to their economic structure particulary revenue sharing. mlb has the red sox and yankees to thank if it continues to go downhill. baseball ain't so hot throughout the united states...ie kansas city

lets not get into this what sport is better.

Both have severe flaws I think both fans can agree on it.

Now back to the NHL

Sources tell TSN that the Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Wade Redden to a two-year contract. Speculation is that the deal is worth $13 million. The team is expected to make a formal announcement of the signing over the next 24 hours.

Stars waived Bill Guerin

That doesn't surprise me...

but anyway, I can't stand people who say..."yeah the nhl was a great success... just look at the RULE CHANGES!!!" Give me a break... you know you're REACHING for excuses on why you think the NHL did fine this year when you bring up rule changes... rule changes aren't going to help a sinking ship of over-paid babies and crappy franchises.... MLB was lucky to come back because of McGwire and Sosa, but the NHL is destined for another year of crappy ratings on OLN, or whatever that stupid station will be called....

NHL is dead to me, and that's all that matters, just wish everyone would give up on the NHL!

ok I'm sorry... you're right...

I just want to Boston Bruins to fail miserably and go under... cause the management has fucked the team over so much in the past 10 years.... I've had enough of the Bruins and the NHL....

This being said... I just want to remind everyone...

I am the reigning Trance Addict Fantasy Hockey Champion... and I haven't watched an NHL game in 4 years....

just a coincidence... I was watching PTI last week and they had someone I despise on there: Jackie MacMullan, she's a columnist for the Boston Globe... and I've hated her since she picked the Steelers to win the 2001 AFC Championship and picked the Steelers to beat the Pats again year after year.... really don't like her...

but the question was, "Was the NHL a failure or a success?" And she was the only one who came right out and said the NHL season was an overwhemling success, because of rule changes, etc... pretty much what you had to say...lol...

but I hate to compare her to you... I apologize... but that's what I was thinking when I said, "doesn't surprise me," just thought I'd tell you what I was thinking....

ah ha...i didn't say it was a huge success but they did better than many expected. leaague wide attendance is up, oln gained a couple million more subscribers, small market teams did well, scoring is up, league revenue is up, officials remained consistent and other stuff. they did what they set out to do...but being away from espn and the rise of other sports doesn't really help the league. the nhl needs a makeover to appeal to most american fans that explains the rule changes and if the shoot out puts butts in seats then so be it

i'm glad to hear they signd joe and the finns today. i could not handle losing more key avalanche players...still pissed about foote and forsberg

I just think Tanguay has been more reliable than Hejduk in the past. Both have struggled the past few playoff runs. The Avs have no clue right now. Theodore is not a Stanley Cup winning goalie but neither was Aebischer. The new NHL has hurt the Avs by far more than any other team thus far. Interesting to see how the new gm Giguere does.

Its ridiculous to think the NHL is back. It will take a couple of years to determine whether the changes have been successful.
