I think they are reffering to the profit margin. The amount they took in above what they needed to cover their costs. They charge between $500-800 to attend these functions...that's a *wee* bit more than covering a meal and lodging (not everyone takes lodging), which the CPC THEMSELVES have admitted. The law is that unless something tangible is received in return (meal, lodging), then it's a political donation.

Note that the CPC spokesperson isn't denying they fucked up...he's satying they didn't know...

You're forgetting the cost of renting the Montreal Convention Centre for three days, the cost of banners, printing costs for materials, badges, staff, security, insurance, music, etc. It all adds up. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost money on the convention.

At least two large national newspapers decided that the piece was not fit to print. It appears though that they have CP feeds on their websites.
