I took some heat for saying what I thought of the line-up, glad to see the final product was as bad as I thought it was going to be. Although it sucks for those that went. |
Are you spoiled or just an elitist?
People- while the order of acts/ flow could have been better, be glad that you got to see all these acts on one bill. Jeeze... I couldn't have been happier to have my top 3 trance DJ's in the same room.
Arrived at 1 since I was waiting on Dark Entity. Got to a spacious KH w/a wicked light set up! Yay for long holiday weekends when everyone's left town! Orange Room was near empty most of the night (busier when Sidney Blu was on), but I guess not many house heads showed up for that price of a ticket.
Christopher Lawrence- awesome, as always, but only caught 2nd 1/2 of set.
Markus Schulz- awesome, as always. Could've used more Markus for sure. "Put Your Loving Arms Around Me"... need I say more? Group hug was in effect.
Second Sun- while I loved their last appearance at the Docks, this set lacked a flow big time. Opening tracks were "This is not Miami/ This is Toronto" and "Another One Bites the Dust", 2 songs I never would've expected to hear come from them. A few gems in there later on, but definitely not their best showing.
Johan Gielen- very nice intro. Made my life complete when he played Coast to Coast- "Home". The 2nd Johan CD I ever owned ('Recorded') was what really made me love him like I do- it never left my CD played for 3 mos, simply for that song & "The Beauty of Silence". My 1st time seeing him at Qontact in Amsterdam 2001, I prayed he would play those 2 songs. He played "TBOS", but not "Home". Last night, the 2nd part of that wish from long ago was fulfilled! As I said to Barry, if he played 1 more of my favorites, my night would be complete. I spent a lot of time then wandering around, socializing w/friends, and came back to the back of the booth near the end of the night, as it was getting close to closing time. I was sitting there thinking to myself: 'I wish he would play Saltwater to close, but theres a fat chance of that happening'. After Johan's mix of U2's "Staring at the Sun", the next song starts up, & he turns around and looked at me and motions to me a 'listen what's coming up' sign. Sure enough......
SALTWATER!!!!!!
Johan knows that's my song!!! So, a big thank you to Johan for playing both "Home" & "Saltwater"!!! Joined all the remaining TA's on the floor to go nuts to the song. He ended up squeezing 1 more track in afterwards, and that was that.
Nice to have met ChrisB and Kayla, and to have seen the NYTA's once again (hey Alyssa & Drew!). Nice to meet you Gabriel! Thank you Sean Cassidy for the hookups. Peace out to all the folks who made my night just for being there.
P.S.- RobbyG- post your pics and video- holy crap, is the quality gonna be amazing!!!
P.P.S- If I never hear "Born Slippy" for the next 10 yrs, I'd be happy. o-ver-played!
