but since june 2006 its the same. And im talking about what has happened since june 1. Even if you look at may its only a 3 cent jump. Big deal!
| quote: | | As for the WC and more people coming out. You wouldnt see them on the streets. Games are 7am and 11am your time. Which means that most places arent open. And those that are will be the ethnic places where their respective community will gather, and @ that time sales will be slow. mostly coffee. |
great then why arent they out at night then? If the world cup is during the day?
| quote: | | And please tell me what Tourism in Toronto is? I still dont see it. Ontario has muskoka and cottage country, Toronto proper has dick that Americans can't find @ home. |
yes you are right.... these days.
We used to have good theatre, festivals, raves, etc that were huge tourist draws. Im not saying smoking bans are the cause of all our tourist woes, but it certainly doesnt help. And it has certainly affected the nightlife industry in toronto. I have absolutely no doubt about that.
| quote: | | And what has the government removed from toronto tourism? |
festivals raves and smoking to name a few. not to mention letting the homeless problem fester.
| quote: | | You say smoking, but if you think a smoking venue is a reason to travel somewhere, then your view on travel is seriously fucked. Tho I guess people do travel to Amsterdam for the pot and hookers, but those are illegal everywhere in other countries, not just in public spaces. |
it just adds to the over all impression. People arent going to return somewhere that they didnt have a good time in. And why is Amsterdam such a huge draw? Because they have fewer lifestyle restriction laws than everyone else. To a lesser extent, in the 90s toronto was like that compared to the US. Americans used to come here because our laws were less strict. Sadly that has changed drastically in recent years.
| quote: | | I just dont buy that the downturn you say exists and buisness owners claim exist is because of a anti smoking bylaw. By your reasoning, Calgary should be booming with tourism now because were ass backwards and allow smoking ONLY indoors where minors can not be present and not on patios. |
So you make all these assertions from calgary... Thats interesting that you are such an authority on nightlife in toronto when you dont live here and i assume you dont work in nightlife.
So, let me tell you about the cow vs stetson ratio in calgary.....
LOL
