Whatever happened to "Never Forget 9/11?"
It seems like everyone wants to bury their head in the sand like that one South Park.
If they don't make movies about recent history then
people will start to forget what 9/11 was all about.

Movies were created for fiction and non-fiction and having Oliver Stone make it will help prevent any
right-wing nuts from attaching themselves to it and promotiong the Bush Doctrine.

Movies like United 93 and WTC need to be made. It's what makes us Americans.

Making movies about 9/11 has nothing to do with remembering it. It wont ever be forgotten, whether movies are made about it or not.

It has EVERYTHING to do with remembering it!!!
It sure isn't for making big movie dollars.
WTC won't make any money like United 93 made little money.

People are more interested in Disney crap like Pirates and
the latest shitty Adam Sandler movie
than feeling and understanding
the most important world changing event of our lifetimes.

It is ALL ABOUT remembering the events and heroes of that
day.

We're such a numb society these days and everybody is out
for themselves.
WTC is all about the sacrifices made that day and the
sacrifices we should be making for the future.

Like I said, 911 will be remembered forever irrespective of whether a movie is made about it. I don't think the public will be amused by this.

i hate nicholas cage, he is so stupid. i guess they picked him since he resembles average joe and appeals to most americans.

Of course 9/11 will be remembered. Everybody will remember it in their own way. Making art about it is one such way to remember it. I don't think the point is to be amused.

We need to respect the fact that some people don't want to remember these events like this though, so saying that everyone should expose themselves to this is ignorant!

100% agreed with you on this one before it even comes close to being an agreeable film.

You cannot think to call it art, tastefull, or respectfull, with the knowledge that it is being made to make even profit 1. ART is not a business venture, true art is made for the sake of expression of emotion and views nothing more.

Some topics are off limits (in my personal opinion) to the pop culture, consumer driven, profit machine that is everyday america and the business entities that run it.

5 years has not been enough time for this tragedy to be naturally dealt with and it's wounds healed over. The "silver screen" really has become a wall of putrid brown over the last few years with its over used and recycled sequals, adaptions of abused storylines and familiar faces, for the sake of the all mighty dollar... but this is just one step too far.

Once I first saw the preview during a movie I went to go see, my jaw dropped at amazment to even think that the "entertainment" industry made a film about it. I was so appalled that I almost got up and left and asked for a refund for the movie I had just sat down to see. I didnt/dont want to give my money to greedy bastards that pride themselves by making tactless movies that feed off of the emotions of the american public.

I for one am NOT ready to see this movie. I dont think I will ever be ready.

don't be so naive... the movie studios are corporations that operate on profit models and report to shareholders first and foremost. if a script/screenplay is pitched to them and they don't see a viable return on investment, guess what? i won't be made! the studios have no interest in pursual of philantropic causes even if that's the way YOU see it. if oliver stone is out produce a genuine, honest and honorable film, that's to his credit alone.

you're right, we should never forget about 9/11... so i can use this noble ideal to merchandise a '9/11' clothing line, bumper stickers, action figures, tv series, book deal, music album, etc... and expect a warm reception under the banner of "art" and "helping society never forget"?

regardless, the families' of the victims want to see their loved ones memorialized in the grandest scope possible, in the grandest art possible, i.e. FILM.

film, much like music, is a language that crosses borders. it ties us together. it communicates emotions that words alone cannot express.

equating film to action figures and clothing is only looking at a part of the larger picture. you're focusing on film as a capitalist venture. this is only part of it. its very pessimistic to think that the origins of the film were some suits in a room saying, "I would like to purchase my next yacht with blood money from the victims of 9/11."

in fact, screenwriter Andrea Berloff did all of the research on her own and wrote the script on spec, and THEN came to the studio when she had the finished product. the producers were so impressed with the humanity of her script, they decided to take it on.

I believe that film falls under a much different banner than action figures and shirts. It's the modern day history teacher for children.

It's depressing to see the responses on this board and how many people want to turn away from the events of 9/11 because they are afraid it's only "about the money" and full of "Hollywood" b.s. Gotta see the film first before you rip it I say.

Whoever said that Art isn't done for money is being very very naive.
All artists do it for the money eventually. And the ones that don't just say that because they don't make enough doing their art.

People need to sac up and deal with the events of that day to remember the fallen and to make sure it doesn't happen again. Pull the head out of the sand and look around.

Also their are 13 year old kids that hardly care or remember 9/11. They will be in college soon and then future leaders of the world. Maybe they should get a chance to view the lessons of that day and the best way to reach this youth is thru film. That's just the fact.

dude, you gotta be more sensitive....understand that everybody deals and copes with tragedy differently.
