I don't think a format is needed. You aren't giving us enough info to really troubleshoot what's going on.

if that doesnt work

goto control panel ---> network connections and delete everything you can. Then on the left pick "make new connection" this will open up the newtwork setup wizard.

yeah i tried the network connection wizard multiple times, that was the first thing i did, i cant delete the only network setting that i have, the only thing i can do with it is disable and enable.


i get this message when i try to renew the IP address.

An error occured while renewing interface local area connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. request has timed out.

that usually happens when the modem cant connect to the net. try reseting ur modem or unplugging the power cord on in for a few seconds.

then run the release and renew...


also check to make sure the LAN cable is sitting properly...

nah the modem connects fine, i know this coz i have another computer that can connect to the net. the comp that im having trouble with can detect a LAN cable connected to it, but then not info is comming in what so ever.

Are you using a router?

BTW, if you have a working computer that can connect to the net, then just copy over the settings for the connection is uses. Make sure all the protocols have identical settings.
