Storylines are overrated. The traditional plot structure is sooo fucking overdone in all of the fucking tripe that Hollywood and even a lot of foreign cinema is churning out anymore. There's hardly anything you can do that's new with plotline - it's been that for a long time, that horse is long dead. Lady in the Water sought to achieve an almost mythological viewpoint of the human legacy and the roles that individuals play within our society's chronology. Post-Disney aspects preserved the sort of Neo-Wagnerian archetype of good and evil forces clashing as well as coexisting in the paradigm of law and disorder. Rules were abided and broken in the Microcosm that Shyamalan was describing as a way of connecting with and teaching us in the same way that a bedtime story would. The elements were all there, all that was inconcrete with the movie was the at times nebulous story line which described a somewhat unrealistic take on characters and the human condition - just like a bedtime story?

I think that if you didn't like the movie, you were clearly expecting something else from it. If there's anyone to blame for that, it's advertising.

poor Shyamalan, i think hes been getting too much hype. everybody was expecting too much from him

Interesting. The only character to die in the movie was the know-it-all asshole movie-critic whose predictions panned out to be untrue.

I give the guy credit for trying to come up with something original...
Let's face it, Hollywood lately is about remakes and sequels.
What was the last movie that made you go:

"Holy fuck! I gotta have that on DVD!"

Don't want to see it. But like ^^^ says, credit is due these days to anyone in hollywood who isn't rehashing shit for the sake of a few extra bucks. I heard about it on Coast2Coast last night about people who actually have some faith in some of the mythology in the characters in the movie, namely Thunderbirds.

I want to see The Descent. If not for the good reviews as a horror movie, for the trailer of Saw 3.

...known from a videotape the two made when they met in March... in Dresdens home, Dresden amputated Gabriels penis and Dresden and Gabriel ate the penis together...Gabriel had insisted that Dresden bite his penis off; this did not work.. Dresden used a knife. When that knife turned out to be too blunt, Dresden used a sharper knife to slice the penis off. Gabriel apparently tried to eat his share of his own penis..but could not because it was too..."chewy". Dresden then sautéed the penis in a pan with salt, pepper, and garlic.

i dont think its too great or anything, but i dont think its nearly as bad as some people here are making it out to be..."worst movie ever"?? puh-leeeesse...even tho the script might not be that strong his direction is too good compared to any "horrible" movie you might find

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. - Timothy Leary

Even so, the movie was done amazingly.

If we are to believe his word, Shyamalan based the movie on a child's fairytale. Original? It's up to the viewer to decide.
