i think the idea would work. but extreme quality control would have to be used. and the name is surely copyrighted by swamper? it needs to be through the man himself if anything happens.

i think this really needs serious planning if you aim to do this. remember that many will expect a very high quality label if it boasts such a respected name. and unless swamper sees this then i somehow doubt he will allow it to go forward.

good luck though

as much as i would like to see it due to the fact that the people who contribute so much to this site get to contribute even more. also i think 90% of people have learnt alot from this site so you would be putting back in what you got out of it.

although all these factors are in my mind i honestly cant see it happening. who is going to do the a & r? who is going to monitor the tracks. the only way i think it could work is instead of one person going through each track and deciding what gets released (which i dont agree with because if its not their taste they wont take too kindly to it), it should go to a vote from the TA's. if 50 people listen and vote on a track and say whether its fit for release will surely cut out the shit releases and also it will be a learning curve for those whose get rejected as they will still be receiving feedback.

that sounds just utopic...there's not much feedback given in the boards now...why do you think a new label could change it?

the thing is even if we try our best, the result will be just another digital label putting crap tunes out...and making TA a bad name...

so whose gonna pay the first few masters,
whose going to keep record of the financial stuff,
who is doing the promotion,
who is doing the a&r,
who will be getting in contact with companies such as audiojelly and beatport.
and who even dares to think he can pull this off in just a few hours a week besides his daily job.

do not underestimate it.

i already pointed out some of these factors and said i cant see it happening. i was also trying to put forward a good claim for it. at the end of the day theres alot of people on this thinking about setting up their own label anyway so why not join together and form one good one instead of 10 shitty ones.

You really have to be an idiot not to come to that conclusion. You said it yourself - everyone's releasing loads and loads of shit in hopes of getting 1 track out that might actually sell. There's no quality control.

Heh, make a GNU label, hehe

or, perhpas not a label, but a group that advertises the shit out of tracks that are hosted on the website

i don't know much about record labels, but i imagen their only point of eixstance is to spread you around, and give you moeny for it, heh

in my opinion, its a slippery slope, if one si really serious about makeing good music, and they spread themselves, they will get signed

in summary, i don't think another 'classical' label should exist

i think would we DO need more of, is communities whos purpose is to spread everyone, say you got a community of 20 people, who all make music, they vote on wether the track should be 'sopread' or not...if it gets spread, thsoe 20 people do ltos of stuff to spread it [posting in other forums, giveing the track to everyone in thier contact list etc]

i am sataisfied at the progress i have made with myself [it isn't much] but it is significant, imagen haveing lots of epople 40-50 folks jsut spreading your shit, multiplying the listeners each time 'spamming' if you will...

i think the goal for most people is to make a leet track, gets signed, and get lots of moeny so they can get a leet computer and play half-life 2 [correct me if i'm wrong :P]

I wonder how many times i have stressed this today..spread yourself..i do get tried of seeing threads about labels

[/end rant]

Also, make GOOD music, obviously, you can't spread shit like you can spread butter [literally]

The poster above has a good idea (from what I could understand from the spelling ).

Instead of a record label I feel it would be better to have a collective of some sort that could help us promote our stuff. It would still mean giving tracks out for free but that way it would be much more focused and would mean more exposure. It would be easy to trade remixes for "releases", sharing connections etc.

With time, who knows what that could evolve to...
