I enjoyed Sasha more prior to him using ableton. With him using ableton he sometimes draws out some sounds for way too long and the mix goes nowhere for like 12 minutes. Other times he is spot on with his ableton usage and it just works.

This is a perfectly serious question: who does set the trends these days? I've heard a lot of DJ's criticized for following trends, but very few praised anymore for setting them.

I have said this before, that Sasha is over-rated; but suddenly everyone jumped on me like I had committed a murder or somethin..

Check out for yourself:

Anyways I think he is wasting the space at top in 'World Top 5 DJs', I hope someone more deserving takes his place and he is rated well below 7 atleast.

I find him boring. Being that all he uses is his laptop in his sets, I'd expect to be amazed and not put to sleep, but that is exactly what he does to me. He makes good music for driving around or just relaxing around the house but in a club he won't move the dancefloor unless you are wacked out of your mind on drugs.

I think if he continued to use cd/vinyl with his laptop in his sets it would be a bit more interesting and inspiring and might even help him think more about what track he is playing next. I have a feeling that he goes into clubs with preplanned sets and doesn't feed off of the crowd at all anymore.

I saw him last summer and it was a pretty sick set. Not at all like his Fundacion or Involver albums.

It may have been before he was real comfortable with Ableton, though I don't think he had any cdj's or turntables with him. Just "Maven" or whatever.

I disagree w/ all of you since it seems your perpective of good music derives from "vocal fluffy trance", but the sets i've posted proves Sasha is far from overrated.

Those are amazing sets and I agree with your point. Alot of the people around this board that say Sasha plays boring music expect him to play music like Gu 13 ibiza or the circa 1999 style trance that he used to play. The only criticism of sasha these days that I will agree with is the fact that he hasnt been playing as cutting edge sets lately ie. same old tracks he been playing for awhile and I dont care for the avalon live cd. The criticism that "Sasha only plays music for people whacked out on drugs" is clearly a stupid comment. He is not the best dj right now but he is still very close to the top. Top dj right now imo is definitely Danny Howells.
