no thats not the reason, at all. kick and bass should be in mono and not panned, so it feels mor e upfront centered sound , and yes it gives space for other sounds that actually make a good use of stereo and panning (leads, pads, synth mostly)

I think experienced people will tell you exactly what booster said...

people are still doing the vinyl thing on most releases.

the main reason bass and kick are in mono is due to the fact that there is no point in stereo. it is omnidirectional so you do not need any stereo effect in it. also a mono bass works more efficiently because you do not get as much chance of phase cancellations from each side.. these are the real reasons for mono lows.

Whatever the reason is . I wasnt wrong in saying it frees up stereo space. I am 100% right in that. because i have starting putting Kick and Bass sounds in MONO and found that my stereo sounds are actually more effecient and you can actually hear the panning a lot more than you would if ur kick were in Stereo. The kick is so strong and needs to really sound in the front/center of the mix. So regardless of the reasons for it. It is a good tool to know and you should do it. Booster's reason are correct as well. There isnt a wrong answer for it unless you say that putting the kick/bass in Mono. makes your hip bone skips out of place and you cannot walk anymore.. Due to the fact that the hip bone is connected to the ass bone etc. etc. I have a broken right ishium bone..

there are no standards when it comes to exact levels while mixing.
However there are some pointers that can be good to have in mind, although they are no truths, just pointers.

When it comes to dancemusic it's important that the focus lies on the kick and bass, that's what keeps the track going and that's what people move their bodies to.

Having a sample in mono doesn't free up space in overall. It just balances the differences. Why you usually distinguish panned sounds better when kick and bass are in mono, is because you have less stereo information to concentrate to.

thats the same opinion i posted. kick and bass---- mono
sounds bettter not phased and upfront, and gives room to other sounds who actually make a better use of stereo
