oh, and i like liquid tension disorder.
pointless thread over all, but dont worry...its over anyways. |
This is bad
A guy auditioned for American Idol using that voice. I wanted to remove his gulliver. What really gets my ticker is when you're walking by some dumbass in his early 20's who listens to this stuff, and he decides to be cool and imitate the voice at you, a complete stranger. Makes me want to remove his duodenum.
This is good
Listen to a sample of...Alive and Kicking for example. That's what I call yelling!

There are actually different type of growls, there's the shrieking growl (mostly used in Black metal), gutteral growl (mostly used in Death metal) and then there's something in between (much like Children of Bodom).
Growls are the type of vocals that certainly take time getting used to. The growls done by the vocalist in Opeth are some of the best sounding IMO sample here @3:29 Insomnium has very nice sounding vocals too sample, Dark Tranquillity get a honorable mention too sample here. It's all about dynamics for me, I love it when a vocalist rips through the song with growling vocals then switches to clean vocals, adds much more emotion to the song.
Now, IMO, these are bad example of vocals here, this is just sad, SOAD, excellent example of lyrics I don't like
And comments relating towards the lyrical nature of metal are just misguided. There are bands out there that put out very poetic lyrics relating to various subject matter.
