dude, just get a new graphics card that works, you can get Ati X300 for like 40 bucks these days, and they are guarenteed to work, you should be able to afford it, after all that money you spent on Macs and buying plugins on eBay, it shouldn't be too much of an investment for you!

In an attempt to get back on topic...

The benefits of having a PC are that you can custom build one to be used solely for music production. If you don't regularly surf the net on your PC and use high quality components without a lot of other junk on the computer, it can be a very stable machine.

A Mac is almost like a set it and forget it machine. Its stupidly simply to gets started and is a fairly stable system, but there are constant OS upgrades and its difficult to upgrade components once your computer becomes relatively obsolete.

Its really a personal choice, since most major software runs on both types of systems. If you're going Pro Tools, I'd go with a mac, but for other software, a PC might be better. Also, you can upgrade the internal sound card on a PC instead of being limited to USB and Firewire interfaces for a mac.

you can stick maudio delta's in the macs that hav pci slots, granted only the priciest of macs have those slots, but you can seriously buy those cards right off a shelf and stick them in a mac.

not an imac, macmooc or mac mini though, only the pro towers.

then again... why would you want to upgrade the internal sound card when you're using a proper external one?

i'm at this stage also of making a mac vs pc decision. in all honesty, it doesn't matter which format you go with as long as you're comfortable using it. that said, it's both cheaper, and very feasible to put together a stable PC as long as the components you choose to use work well together. so if you're going for a desktop, take your pick. put together a PC yourself and save some money, or shell out the extra dough for a nice, stable mac desktop.

going for a laptop? then i'd most definitely head for a mac when it comes to stability, especially when it comes to working with hardware components, midi, and lots of memory intensive software.
