That's strange that he won't admit to even playing trance tracks. I don't think Paul is 100% a trance DJ. Having heard a number of his sets he plays all sorts of different things, but for the most part I would call him a trance DJ.

I wonder what he would call himself then.

I think if DJs wish to participate, they should specify which category they are to be considered in.
So, the poll would close, all of those DJs who received votes would be contacted (as much as possible...)and then the results posted accordingly.

this is a dumb idea.

A good dj can span all genres and keep things interesting. A good dj would object to being pidgeonholed into a single category.

It was bad enough since the top 100 djs is nothing more than a pissing contest (driven by heavy marketing campaigns aimed at getting volumes of people to vote i might add)

The top 100 is nothing more than an illustration as to who has the best marketing campaigns and the most contacts. It has little to do with actual ranking of talent.

Actually, its just an illustration as to which DJ has the biggest fan group because most of the voters I would assume dont know their music and often times are genre snobs who refuse to listen to a new sound/DJ outside those that play their music of choice. Unless, professionals in the field are the ones who make the decision, this type of personal bias will always affect the rankings. Hell if we were to decide which sportsman was number 1 instead of the officials, it would usually always be the good looking one with the most charisma.

In any case, the concept of having a number 1 DJ is utterly ridiculous. I dont recall a rankings system for the best rock band or something like that.

Voting started a couple days ago...get your votes in if you want to participate. As controversial as this "top DJ award" is, especially on this board, I still think it's fun.

VOTE HERE

Who are you voting for?
