people need to start treating each other with respect and dignity. why let thousand year old scriptures dictate how we think. the human brain is such an amazing organ and tool. surely we all have enough intelligence to put ourselves first before our religion.

ying yang. you cant have good without evil, happiness without sadness, peace without war. you will always need an opposite of something to base a reference from, this is the way of the universe and all existence. that is the fundamental reason why a utopian society can never exist.

Stop watching CNN so much?

Everybody thinks their time is the most epic, the most important. Truth is, the world is doing relatively pretty well right now. There's been far worse conflicts by the thousands where millions were killed. The problem is that today we're bombarded with all this gloomy information, and it gives people (especially americans such as yourself) the impression that the world is falling apart around them. You drive home from work and turn on the radio and all you hear about is how many people got killed in iraq today, then you get home, flip on your TV and you hear about a terrorist plot to blow up airliners, so you go on the internet and your homepage has a bunch of links about terrorism, iraq, etcetera. You're a prime example of the effects of the "culture of fear" that sociologists often talk about. Without realizing it, you end up viewing the world through the lens of pessimistic media. It affects how people lead their lives, and it affects how people make their decisions. It's no coincidence that so many americans keep firearms for protection and vote for extremely conservative leaders.

Spot on.

What the hell is wrong with the world? The Middle East is a hot-bed (no change there) and there's some vague threats that an Asian country or two haven't heard of MAD. However, just because America had war (albeit a terrorist attack) occur on her soil for the first time in about 150 years...

WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE.

Hawaii is thousands of miles from the mainland- it's hardly striking close to home for most of the 280 million American people. I doubt there'd be a climate of fear if America was attacked by a geographical technicality- Pearl Harbour was just attacking an American military base in the Pacific to most people.

Hawaii wasn't part of America when Pearl Harbor was attacked. So it technically wasn't our soil.

I'm pretty worried about the current world affaris as well... I think we're going to see some major economic, political and national changes around the world within the next couple of years, for good or better I don't know, but 9/11 and the war on terrorism set off what seems to be a world shift of power. That's just my gut feeling,
