even though this guy is new at this , i do understand what he's saying.. I always set out to make a trance track and I end up with a sort of soundtrack type track usually. But I don't mind it because I'm not trying to make trance tracks like they are now.. I'm trying to make my own style/genre but I really rarely stick with my original idea, it always changes and evolves as I go.

My only thought on this subject matter is to keep reading, learning, and really focusing on your production and different sounds. Pick apart some trance tracks and see what really makes the tracks great, not just good. That'll help you realize what you are lacking in your productions.

Indeed that's what I have been doing for a while, even though I am not that skillful but every type of sound or rhythm I know how to successfully produce I can associate with a certain track of some famous producer that I kept listening to for a while in order to understand what makes his track tick.

i agree with kane's statement about reviewing others' will help in improving. i used to think that reviewing is just merely giving out words about a track but if we spend a lil bit of time to just understand the tune and give our professional side of critics, we can actually learn something from it (e.g. spotting the flaws, what areas can be improved, ideas, etc). i definitely learnt something from reviewing tracks, just like you learn thru listening pro tracks.

for me, i'd try to follow the mainstream trance before i go to my own style. i think it's better to get a grip of what the public prefers and incorporating it with your own ideas.

Actually, the melody and development are pretty good. What you need is some dynamic qualities thrown into your leads, and some effects to give the song direction, as well as percussions to give the song drive.

I say you should run with it, make the sounds that serrendipity leads you into, explore whatever wild path you may stumble into during your projects without regard to whether it fits as trance.

This stuff kinda flows out of your soul (KINDA!), if you have trance in your sould it will come out, if you have something else in there it will come out in your tune, and there is no shame in it. Sometimes I like to think that I can tell when a person is supressing their soul in a production, if you are a trancer you should make trance, if you are a progger you should make prog, if you try and make somethine that doesnt fit in with who you are it tends to come out sounding really fake, so take whatever your soul is leading you towards, and run with it, you'll have more fun that way too.

Well thank God this is one of things I am really sure about, I am a Trancer and I am really passionate about that fact, remember that in scenarios like the track I have posted in this thread I am heading out with the intention of making that track a trance track but it just slipped out of my hand and I found myself making a track that doesn't fit my taste too much, but still there are somethings that I like about it like the selection of the synth and the beat(well maybe the bass was too much but that's no biggy) but the structure was the problem for me.

I think the main thing I can be glad about is that I am just not one of those producers that think there tracks kick ass no matter what, I just KNOW IT when my track sucks ASS without anyone pointing that out, and same thing goes for when the track kicks ass too

I think fortunately for me I have a track that I have been hammering at for a week or so that I think has the potential of pulling me out of my "not so cool tracks ditch" that I am stuck in

I will be posting a sample of the new track very soon so you guys can see if I have corrected the mistakes you guys have pointed out before or not.

So true, it's so easy for me to just giveup , sell my equipment and say "[Eric Cartman's Voice] Screw you guys I am going home[/Eric Cartman's Voice] but I am no quitter and with advice and feedback from you fellow TAers hopefully I'll reach a point where I can say I am there
