For the paint, I'll have to wait until I get asked to do a remix, they will surely give me a 5 dollar fee

More questions on this subject from my enquiring mind.....

Is it more profitable to have a track digitally released or the CD/Vinyl way ?

Now that we getting some closure on some figures which is quite interesting for all of us wanting to get a release in the future.

Can music production be a career or will it just be a hobby ?
Will we sweat it out till 4 in the morning producing only to realise that the average guy who works at the garage on a straight shift gets more than us producers or is there more to the earning of money through trance music ?

I would say there is money for trance producers that are really good. Most of the people on this website are really bad. If you are interested in making a living producing , you need to expand your horizons. You need to be versatile , you need to be able to do more than trance. If you don't you will be subjecting yourself to the before mentioned 500 a release payoff.

I'm not trying to be condescending , i just think that most of the people thinking about making a living doing music probably shouldn't quit their day job. The world has alot of shitty music , chances are you're music is part of it.

MOral of the story ? I don't know. Not trying to be negative. If you really want to make a carreer out of music , you need to suck it up and realise trance music is over. Everything you do is just rehashed bullshit that won't get anyone's interest except for the few nerdy trance addicts that still think it is cool. Learn music theory , listen to normal music , listen to new music but if you really want to make a living , you have to be a little more versatile than a trance producer.

another trance is dead poster

if you dont like the music dont listen to it and wine about on a trance forum. people on here respect most genres of music and they ones they dont like they dont make up factless bullshit about them. trance isnt in your face as it used to be so its dead. stop being stupid, if it was dead then the clubs and festivals wouldnt pull in the crowds it does.

i don't think you grasped what i was trying to say. IT has nothing to do with liking the music. IT is about realising the trance trend has come and gone , and expecting to make a great living from making it isn't practical. It could be trance , jazz or blues or whatever , the fact is that the music genre is not making alot of money and to expect to make alot of money is unrealistic. Some of the producers do well , which is why i mentioned if you were reall really good , it could happen. Most of you aren't really really good. Which is why i suppose the long winded answer to the simple question was no. You won't make a living making trance. Not a definite no. It could happen , but i would suppose it is very unlikely.

Indeed. Versatility is the key. If you get stuck on producing one genre you won't make a living, especially if you're doing trance since the market is way too crowded as it is.

no one really expects to make serious money from producing alone. producing for me is a back door into djing at big clubs where imo the money is. once your an established name the gigs follow. many producers have gone this route.

although for me producing is a hobby. if i make money out of it thats great but the enjoyment of making something that i would want to mix is my goal.

And that's the way it should be. If you're starting up producing and the first question you ask is "how much money can I make with this?" you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
