So what exactly does the serato vinyl look like? I had a look at their site but didn't find a pic. What I'm getting at is is it like a regular groove with a constant tone or is it a series of pits. I've not seen one up close.

It looks and feels just like a normal vinyl. That’s because it is one. You're right about the constant tone. If you play it that’s all you hear, but the Serato program is able to detect the changes in this tone interpret it, and make the corresponding changes to the song you are playing off your computer. It’s amazing, you can lift the needle and place it anywhere on the record and Serato can instantly tell where on the record the needle is and start the song at that point. Just like a real vinyl.

How's it do that? Is the tone SMPTE or something?

I don't know exactly how it does it but it can. You may want to ask on the Serato forum over on ranes web site.

I have no idea about the bleach, but i'd stay away just on the fact if you get it on your cloths you can kiss the color good bye.

I've been using 1/2 rubbing alcohol 1/2 distilled water for some time now with good results.
