My friend and I decided to do a bit of acoustic analysis on the sample of that bassline. We came up with a theory that he used a pure sine wave sample with compression.

Hope this helps. Search the posts here - this subject has been beaten up numerously.

Not perfectly.. and definitely not easily. We're talking a professional virus sound designer here, trying his best to immitate it - he got close but wasn't the same. we had to eq and distort to make it closer. the wave looked too perfect to be synthesized.

The problem was you started with a sine.. It's obviously primarily a saw. If there is a sine, it's like 75% saw 25%sine

Eeek, you don't put verb on bass... Delay by all means but not verb. Would make the mix very muddy and also make it impossible to cut to vinyl.

Fred Baker Greg Nash - Lunar eclipse . When the beat comes back in after the break he has some phatt mono bass with tons of verb on it.

It's called a saw wave. Just add some boost to the bottom one or two frequencies (Same as adding a sine or two).

The farty noise is most certainly not a compressed sine wave. Compressed sine waves are akin to lowpassed squares, and are ultimately very hollow sounding. Maybe svd's more techy bass is like that, but that sound is far from the "farting" that the OP described. It's more like tuneless humming.

Actually, now that I look through, It's obvious to me that there is no single kind of bass that occurs in that mix. I've given the description for the one in the first song, though. I also notice compressed sines, filtered and distorted squares, and all manner of bass sounds.

You should just come up with your own bassline. Chances are, it'll sound like something svd does.

how is the farty noise made? I was presuming it was offbeat bass samples.......

HAHAHA. I laugh at the idea of building any sound on a virus in 2 minutes. It ain't that kind of synth.

Ok, I will rephrase that... you don't put verb on low frequencies as this can cause issues when you are cutting vinyl as this will cause technical issues. I suppose that vinyl is dying and the digital mediums will rewrite the rules anyway but traditionally you don't put reverb on bass for the above reason.

And no.. I don't want to eat your shorts or any other item of clothing for that matter.

lol - I wouldn't recommend eating clothes

I do know what you mean about bass, I would never splash verb on it for the reasons you've listed. This track and some others are exceptions to the rule I s'pose.
