I talked to someone who gave interviews and he said that something like that on a CV is excellent. He was going through a pile of CVs and saw someone who had written down that they'd worked in a Casino. He then interviewed that person purely to find out what they did and what sort of work they did in the casino (turned out they worked on Routlette tables). The person turned out to be great and they got the job.

So yeah, put something like that in to get the employers attention. It may seem crazy, but for an employer going through 30 boring CVs, your name will stand out as you've done something interesting like that. And they might bring you in to an interview for the job.

The guy recommended i put on my CV "The felling of 100x 40ft trees in a confined space", simply because it makes the CV stand out. And everyone that looks at my CV sees that line and laughs, but it has the effect of them remembering my name and CV.

Not too sure what she did to get her initial position though, will ask her.

Of course I don't. With an apprenticeship, the point is that they take people who are unqualified, and then put them through the necessary courses. It's a bit of a 'slower' way of doing things than just getting a degree, and you obviously start on a shitter wage, but they offer you valuable work experience as well as getting the qualifications - plus a guranteed job afterwards.

I have a small section for my interests / hobbies. I may consider this.

its easy math.. if you have some managmenet courses that youve taken in school place that on the top of your resume.. it shows that you have incentive to contribute to the company. And you could have some insight into the future direction of hte company. Management skills are extremely important in any job. Management and accounting together will give a great impression

i find that attention to detail and logic are pretty important when i'm doing accounting work.

Do you have a degree? You need either a degree or to have completed AAT before you can study was part of the ICEAW (Chartered Institute), well you did last time I looked. Not so with ACCA although if you have a relevant degree it will exempt you from a lot.

You looking to do audit or accountancy?

If you want to go into audit you need to be good with people but also authoritative when you need to be, and confident in your own ability (something I fall down on) as clients will constantly question your opinions.

Tell them you are dedicated because its a hard slog doing professional exams when you have plenty going on in your life other than work.

Aso, its not just numeracy that counts, you need to be pretty good at explaning yourself in word, for both exams and work.

Is it a big firm you are looking to join? There may be tests at the interview stage if so. Luckily I always managed to escape all that bollox.

Anyhoo, I hope that helps. Ill keep my mouth shut about my views on the career choice!
