- Some people will say that trance is not evolving.
I will reply: Please listen to more of the music that is being released nowadays. There is a lot of styles/subgenres which have been developed in the last few years. The fact that you don't like it is irrelevant, but all those new grooves, basslines, techniques of production and sounds that have emerged in the last few years are the proof that trance IS evolving, even if it's not the way you want it to evolve.
- Some people will say that there are a lot of artists out there, who use the same sounds, over and over again, without looking for new ideas, and even worse, a lot of artists who constantly "steal" sounds from each other, repeating the same whole scheme again and again.
This is a result of a genre become more popular, and does not apply to trance only. Think about it: rock music, pop music, and pretty much any form of art... there has always been 2 types of artists in my opinion. Those who put their soul into creating something new, and those who surf on that wave. You can blame the artists for making no effort, blame the listeners for not willing to listen to new music, blame the labels for releasing only the tracks that make money ... but at the end of the day it's all about how art has to deal with it's own industry once it gets more popular.
It's always quite frustrating for me to read "trance is getting worse and worse" or "nowadays trance sucks". Do you people who say this really don't like anything that is being released at the moment ? and more important, what kind of new trance would you like to hear ?
Let's try and make this into a more constructive discussion than all those "trance is dying threads", we have enough of those anger management problems in the music discussion forum.

I feel trance is going down cause fewer artists makes anything new and interesting, most tracks are based on same cliche`s and its so damn boring, and once in a while someone makes something that sounds fresh and cool, but those tracks most often comes from producers that has been in the scene for a while, while newcomers still are grabbing the Above & Beyond sound that evolved from Ferry`s sound.
I love trance, but mostly i tend to stick with the older tracks, alot of them never dies, even if i heard em the first time 6-8 years ago.
I also noticed vocal tracks these days has a totally flat voice with no tone, making it less catchy and easier to produce.
Trance is not evolving in a direction i like, so i have, and still am moving to other genres for new music, although i still love the good old trance i always loved.

From my point of view, its just that! That trance in evolving into something, like i would call it, Boring, however i do see some new artist popping up with some really good tracks!
I feel that trance has evolved to much, i personally like it to step back a bit! Hope you see what im saying!?

That's understandable, and I feel the same way about some of the new "areas" of the trance scene. Do you mean boring because everything sounds the same (which is obviously not the case, seeing how many subgenres of trance there is nowadays that sound completely different one from each other) or boring because this new trance lacks some of the characteristics that made you love earlier trance ?
Subtle : Being angry against a certain category of artists is ok, and you have good reasons for that. But it's not like 100 % of the artists out there are trying to replicate the "Above & Beyond" sound, as you like to call it (which has changed a lot through the years, btw.. you just have to listen to their first remixes and also to their latest "can't sleep" track to realise they have evolved too).

I think the problem is with us "complainers" is that WE liked trance when trance was a certain sound, that evolved to a blurry uplifting trend where the whole focus is on the production rather than actually making something cool.
Although people new to trance, say 1-3 years ago, grew into liking the sound "we" dislike.
hence the new sound will always be popular amongst the newcomers, and leaving use "old school" people to dust.
new trance music will eventually fade away, as the marked is overflowed with Artists and Labels, releasing digital music for no cost at all.
Still, the good labels will still release good material, but only wish the smaller ones did as well.
I think trance of today and in the future will be "free" music for everyone and it might as well die, and let the good labels live.

What you are doing now is taking a little percentage of artists and calling them "trance of today". Fortunetly there is a lot more to trance than just those artists.
The digital label thingy is another story - it has become quite problematic in my opinion too, but maybe we should create another thread for that
