My 'best friend' has that effect on me at times, and it's DEFINITELY not gay. He's not attractive to me at all. People have also called us a couple.
I wonder though, what is your position in the relationship? Are both of you equally 'dependent' (for lack of a better term) on each other? Or is it just you? Do you confide in your friend a lot?
edit: the effect my friend has on me, is probably not the same level as yours (kind of close, but we both hold back..). I'm positive that I could only get *that* close with the opposite sex.
