robtronik are you satisfied with your 3D? i went to my local store to try it out the thing looks ok at first those MIDI knobs are located way too close to each other! latency was fuckin bad worse than with other MIDI controllers i tried using with Live and the price?!?! 3000 CAD that's around 2700 US I had a good laugh at it, you could proabably get a djm-800 from Pioneer and firewire sound card and a midi controller like x-session and save yourself a load of money by not buying a 3D
one thing i didnt get why it costs a fortune i guess it's aimed at something like Paul van Dyk's wallet

Very happy with it. I did exactly as you mentioned above first - had a DJM-800, Motu Ultralite soundcard, etc. But the Xone's audio quality is better, and there is nothing like showing up with a mixer, one USB cable and a laptop.
Too many freaking connections with the DJM solution.
as far as the knobs being too close together, I agree, but given the benefits of audio quality vs. cheaper price, I'm going with the better audio quality and deal with some of the knobs beeing too close to each other.

cheers for the reply Rob, for the sake of portability this thing wins over any MIDI mixer or out there I agree, it's great but it comes with great price I wouldnt consider it unless DJing was my full time job.
I read very few over @ abletonlivedj/forum got it... 2 lads actually tried and returned it back
Your very lucky not only to own one but also be comfortable with it despite its issues etcs

I don't have one.. but I saw it finally IN PERSON today at the local shop (where I still ended up spending about $700 today).. Its pretty damn sexy looking.. but I would never use it to its full potential... Hell the Nuo4 has more than enough MIDI control for me, and I haven't properly put it to full use..

friend has it. i've spun on it about 15-20 times. as JUST the mixer, i love it. i kind of like the 3band over the 4band for some reason.
for ableton, i have not gotten the chance (my friend couldn't afford the laptop, so he uses it with his desktop, and i've only been at his place like twice) but i understand that should you really sit down and set your shit up correctly, it'll work.
not to mention, i saw Pascal F.E.O.S. DESTROY using one last night. 2x CDJs, Xone:3D, Live 6, and some weird effects box i hadn't seen before. he didn't seem to have any issues whatsoever with it.

I have heard many reports saying that the Xone:3d is bad. However, most of those reports were from the first month or so that it was out. I have heard that A&H have made some changes to it that improve its value and functionality. I don't know if this is true or not, but it does seem like more people are adopting the mixer now than before.

bastard!! how long have you been saving for??
for me it's quite unrealistic even if I sell my DJM-800 I'd hardly have even half cost of 3D I'd have to save up for months to collect enough to buy one

I've been looking into the Xone 3D lately, and more and more I'm starting to want one.
My biggest question is this: will the MIDI clock lock into the beat of a channel automatically, and then slave Ableton to that tempo? Meaning, if I'm playing a track on vinyl or CDJ, will the Xone pick up it's tempo and sync clips in Ableton to it?
Also, it only needs to connect to a computer via USB, correct? |
I am dying to get one myself looks more appealing to me with each day,,
All you need is connect it thru USB and your set, that's how a MIDI clock works you got it spot on.
