You need a mixer (or a soundcard with more outputs) if you want to hear what you're doing. It is possible.

SIR is without a doubt the best reverb plugin ever because its free and you know...good.

But it rapes your CPU and it has a permanent 8190 sample delay on the channel that uses it. So that means you have to run channel delays on every other channel to keep everything in sync. But it rocks. I usually mixdown with fruity reverb which sounds crap. When it comes time to bounce, I replace fruity reverb with SIR and get pleasantly surprised every time.
