Ashes squad Andrew Flintoff (capt), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Ashley Giles, Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Geraint Jones, Sajid Mahmood, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Liam Plunkett, Chris Read, Andrew Strauss, Marcus Trescothick.

out of this, anderson & giles haven't played all year, harmison is unfit at the moment, flintoff too. Mahmood is overrated imo and trescothick is unwell with family problems. We've got a squad based in perth which is

Academy squad Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Rikki Clarke, James Dalrymple, Steven Davies, Ed Joyce, Robert Key, Jon Lewis, Graham Onions, Matt Prior, Owais Shah, Tom Smith, Chris Tremlett, Michael Yardy.

Bopara, Joyce & Shah are very good batsmen, Clarke is overrated but plays for surrey so gets picked. Davies is a very young wicket keeper with a good record this season, Key & Jon Lewis will be known from last year. Prior is about 5th or 6th best keeper with read 1st & foster 2nd imo. Onions & Smith are young bowlers, Stuart Broad is the young son of icc ref chris broad & has had a very good debut season, liken him to tait in experience, only a tad slower, but more accurate. Yardy is an allrounder for 1 day, as is Dalrymple although the latter is a 1st pick in our new-look ODI

Giles is crap, always has been. The board needs to look forwards rather than keep picking him. As long as Panesar is number 1 thats ok, but I really think the Aussies will be licking their lips at the prospect of Giles. Pick Panesar and someone else, forget Giles.

I cannot understand why thy picked their team so far out. Ok theres no problem making changes, they're not locked in like the WC, but why not give those injured/recovering players (which I understand theres a few) another month and then decide whether to name them or not. Also with the Champs trophy theres the chance of a borderline player going beserk and pushing thier name up into contention.

You gotta wonder about Flintoff as captain too, I was reading today that he is probably not the best choice. Never won a series or soemthing like that. Strauss seemed to be the captain of choice in about 3 articles I read. He seems to be a little more level headed then Flintoff, plus Flintoff's got a massive workload already. In addition I just reckon batsmen are better suited to be captains, better as bowler-managers etc. It was suggested that Flintoff would underuse Panesar and instead bowl 40 overs a day himself.

And will Fletcher actually pick the best team or will he let himself get faithful towards his own players and pick them in front of better players (eg Jones in front of Read)

I dunno, it just seems like you have done what you did 4 years ago when you last toured. Named a team way out with a heap of injured players and it backfired on you.

yeah it's majorly confusing mate. Giles should be forgotten imo, we have better young spinners (including a leg spinner of 18 yrs old at yorkshire who's made huge impact on the under 19s & county game) and i would have strauss as capt too cos of freddie being overworked, but the selectors have their favourites, which is why marsh quit, but read is back as number 1 now, and about time.

I probably would have eventually voted towards the end, after i'd given some thought to my list - but the constant spamming encouraged me to open up the voting page and place 5 x's in the relevant boxes. Fuck spam right in the arse.
