Kris I hear where you are coming from but this isn't the direction I'm speaking about. You wouldn't understand partly because you aren't native to NY (or are you), just that the 'underground' scene is still prominent, I'm talking about the days when Arc, Centrofly, Twilo were popping...Arc especially when it was Vynil, there was this sense of low key mainstream DJ but people didn't go there because it wasn't a place to be seen type of place. you still got your DJ like matt hardwick's GC party @ arc, but it wasn't a "walk down 27th street in some backless clad top to show you aren't 15" type of venue. Same goes for Cielo, it's in the dark even though it lays within the meat packing glam.

I use to love collecting fliers, I hate it now.
To be honest, I even hate the made event ones that are current.

Poorly designed, no running theme, very "commericalized card" now..

I dunno the more I think about this the more I take the piss on what NYC is "supposed" to be and how we've taken this right into the hands of where the city wants it to go...nonexistent.

We'd get no attention if we still did parties at Arc because as said before, people go there to party and hang, not to be seen!

I think there are great parties at Sullivan Room almost on a weekly basis... I liked Love, but am always dissapointed at the number of people each time I am there... hopefully Element on Friday will have a good showing so there is a monthly there as well... all of those underground clubs are bringing in some amazing talent that arent superstar djs... as for Made Events, I think they concentrate on big events because its a cash cow for them, and if they really wanted to, they'll move to a smaller event to throw their parties... its probably not worth throwing a smaller party at a smaller event (in their eyes), which isnt a bad thing for the "underground" scene.

Wow, it's like you read my mind. I just told Kristin she would've loved Arc about 30 minutes ago. I guess nostalgia is the theme of the day.

There are people who have tried and invested a lot personally, but it's a huge risk that sometimes doesn’t pay off. Urban Promos aka East Side Productions brought a lot of great DJs to several different venues in NYC. They were the primary reason I'd be hungover and dead tired at work on Friday mornings lol

DJs: Desyn Masiello, Paolo Mojo, Satoshi Tomiie, Infusion, Steve Porter, Elie Wilkie, Dave Seaman, Phil K, Derrick Carter, Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Colette, Scumfrog, Wally Lopez, Jody Wisternoff, Luke Fair (booked but cancelled b/c they lost their venue), and of course our home town boys the Low End Specialists

Venues: Cielo, Cellar Bar, Sol, Home, Sully, Canal Room, Pacha, BED

ESP never charged exorbitant covers, and they thought of the partygoers first. They left a venue if the sound wasn’t up to par etc. Unfortunately, when you don’t pack the house as much as say a hiphop party, club owners aren’t as willing to let you stay.

Luckily, we have Robots who are still determined to throw good parties with reasonable covers, but they don’t exactly do trance… lol

I have faith in new york. I have faith in tfst. I have faith in the real music listeners. I know that in the face of a society thats squeezing the arts out 1 by 1...the artists will rise.

it's not that i don't have faith in our locals its the whole production approach. like we thirst that "big room big dj" combo when in fact its hurting us. we need a monetized production company to run a line of well produced small/focused parties and I think companies like made should re-evaluate their approach and down scale it. leave the drapers and boris to do their weeklies at crobar/pacha and have those special events at smaller clubs, i'm sure these clubs would love that foot traffic and exposure.
