After briefly reading through the report I will attempt a very blunt synopsis of their ideas.

Please don't be overly critical of my interpretation, I'm only trying to get the jist of what they are saying for people who don't want to read the whole thing.

They have a system based on a few factors.

1) Physical Harm- Acute, Chronic, Parenteral
2) Dependence- Intensity of Pleasure, Psychological Dependence, Physical Dependence
3) Social Harms- Inotoxication, Other social harms, healthcare costs

They do state that there is no standard tool with which to measure the different drugs and the harms that they cause.

They go into more depth but on first read, it looks like the "harms" that they are referring to are societal .

I was thinking they had a way of monitoring whether taking a cap of g was more harmful then smoking a joint.

It doesn't look like that is in here, although I haven't read the entire thing.

THE IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE:

All of these substances scored on a harm scale - which means (yes) they are all harmful. They ALL harm.

Casual or cavalier attitudes (Drug X is less harmful than Drug Y) is a very unsophisticated approach. Hopefully one has more sense than that.

RJ.....I think it is safe to say anyone on here knows drugs are harmful. That being said, anyone can create a harmful chart for any product.....everything can be harmful to us.

Heh that's what i thought when i saw that as well. Considering they are legal in the Netherlands (and quite possibly Belgium too by now - although don't quote me on that), are a 100% natural product, and are not incredibly strong or addictive for that matter i pretty much fail to see the reasoning behind an A classification.

Although i guess it's possible they might have gotten that because of the psilocybin in them. But still, when compared to crack or heroine there is a HUGE difference

*Edit*

I checked it out, looks like i was right in regards to the psilocybin:

quote:

The Law: The Drugs Act 2005 classified raw magic mushrooms - and dried or prepared 'shrooms - as Class A drugs.

The new legislation slammed down hard on the sale and distribution of magic mushrooms, with anything up to life imprisonment and an unlimited fine for supplying someone else with magic mushrooms.

Possession of magic mushrooms is up to seven years in jail and an unlimited fine and it is illegal to import, export, produce, supply, possess or possess with intent to supply magic mushrooms, in any form. Supplying growing kits is also outlawed..

Previously only dried and prepared magic mushrooms were illegal because they contained high levels or the Class A chemical psilocybin, but raw mushrooms that contain psilocybin have also been deemed illegal.

my allergy pills would score higher on that scale than some of the illegal stuff.

/mmmm, benadrylllll

[edit] also, kinda funny that barbiturates score only 3rd on the scale but they are part of the chemical formula used in lethal injection
