most decent nearfield speakers will start to deafen you before they are loud enough to damage themselves. people who can afford to buy expensive monitors are generally not stupid enough to break them this way.

thus, derivatives two faulty items are most likely caused by a physical defect in the tweeter. that does not mean the defect originated at the factory. in fact, i clearly said that it would suggest they have been mishandled in transit or storage.

but i had puchased them a year a go.they worked fine all this time.
one more point ---dyaudio maual says that bm5a is protected for high input---if they are protected from high input--how they fail.
one more point to point out --by my mistake i boost up the left speaker'S mid(setting at the back of speakers)--effect my mix also.
any way the dynaudio must keep the rates of spares afordable.and no suport on dynaduio site.they to contact your local distributer who can chage more as the international rates are not shhown on thier site.if--some gan find out the price for bm5a in us doller then we can
nagotiate at cost with the distributer.

I had several options which were as follows:

1) Go through Digital Village's returns procedure and get a replacement directly from them. This should be the most straight forward method if your speakers fail within the 28 day returns period offered by DV247. My BM5a failed after about 14 hours use over a period of 2 weeks.

2) Contact Dynaudio who will forward you to their domestic returns department. They will replace a defective speaker within the manufacturer's 1 year warranty.

I would have gone with option 1 but the first pair of BM5as that DV247 shipped to me were so badly beat up I couldn't even plug them in (the woofer in one speaker had a hole in it and the baffle had numerous chips and scratches. The other had a chipped and scratched baffle and both plugs were so badly bent out of shape they wouldn't fit in a wall socket).

There was a dispute over whether they were shipped in this condition or whether they were trashed in transit and I had to argue down the phone to UPS (who handle all deliveries for DV247) for about a month before they decided to compensate me. It took a further 2 months before I got my money back. I bought a second pair of BM5as from DV247 and one of the units they shipped me the second time was the one with the exploding tweeter. I was so sick of DV247's returns department by this point I just went with option 2 and called Dynaudio UK directly. This would have been over 4 months from purchase and I was known to 247's returns department by my first name which says it all.

Dynaudio UK forwarded me to a guy whose name I emailed to you. He handles all the returns in the UK/Ireland so it is doubtful he would be able to help you but he may be able to forward you onto someone who handles returns in your country.

Dynaudio as far as I am aware do not have a repairs department in any country and their policy was to not refurbish speakers at all because (apparently) the failure rate of Dynaudio speakers is so low that it is simply not cost effective for them to maintain such a service. Instead they offered to completely replace both my BM5as free of charge.

They asked me for my nearest Dynaudio retailer (Audio Warehouse in Dublin, Ireland) and they shipped the replacement speakers to them. I then went into Audio Warehouse and traded in the broken speakers for the replacements and got a receipt.

Dynaudio paid for the shipping back and forth between themselves and Audio Warehouse so it cost me absolutely nothing and they did it fast (within 5 working days sent and received). They gave me an assurance that if I experienced any further problems they would replace my speakers again free of charge. I have many good things to say about Dynaudio UK's customer support because they do not mess around and it is probably the main reason why I stick to Dynaudio like glue. I'm still debating whether I even like BM5as and I rarely use them except as a secondary reference.

Get in touch with Dynaudio as soon as possible and outline the problem you have. Tell them your location and ask them which department would be most appropriate to discuss repairs/returns (as before they probably don't do repairs but ask anyway). Tell them if you are just out of warranty - Dynaudio UK seemed pretty flexible and when talking to me they seemed very interested in keeping me as a customer (which was nice).

In theory, it should be impossible to destroy a BM5a by overloading the tweeter. BM5as have clip indictators that tell you when you are driving the amps over capacity. The drivers will automatically mute when this happens. They also have temperature sensors and when they reach a threshold temperature the amps will shutdown and cool off. There are so many failsafes that you really have to try to destroy them to actually uhh, destroy them.

Finally, good luck. It sucks having your speakers die on you.

Definitely a dud speaker (which is rare for Dyns) or damaged in transit.

The BM5a's are tanks and do play very loud for very long, plus they will shut themselves off which is great.

Got linked up to this thread. In the same boat as I blew my BM6A's last night. Tis a horrible feeling, not to mention some serious damage to my left ear from the overload.

Dynaudio's 'tank' reputation is deserved and they can take more punishment than most, however there is NO fullproof overload system for dealing with all analogue path that I'm aware of without affecting its ability to deliver sound properly.

It seems in your case a very rare case of failure as I doubt you were playing CS with the volume THAT loud.

In my case it was my soundcard going bezerk and sending an intense DC offset like signal to them.

Having the overload lights flicker on the odd occasion is fine, they can take those bumps, but when the overload lights are on constant, that's bad news. They can only survive that for a short period, do it more than once and you'll most likely damage your dyns.

I would imagine with the Air series using their digital input that it would be impossible to overload those as any overload can be dealt with in the digital domain first.

Mine are going off for a damage report tomorrow to HHB, who are the only qualified dealer in the UK to properly handle and repair Dynaudios in the UK (ie do NOT try and get them repaired yourself or by anyone else, you owe it to yourself to keep the level of quality and precision that Dynaudios are supposed to deliver)

I really hope yours get sorted, along with mine, and that the bill isn't too expensive, as I really can't afford repairs right now

It was me that was playing CS. I was dossing. Delta6Six was probably doing something productive, like you know making music.

The tweeter in the BM5a/BM6a should be an Esotec d260 which as far as I am aware is not massively expensive. I mean its pricey but the really expensive one is the Esotar T330D. Those ones are in the Air 25 I think as well as their Confidence Hi Fi range. Blowing an Esotar tweeter is not cool because it will cost you like 700 bucks and they are not exactly easy to find.

I don't think Dynaudio will sell you spares directly but they can hook you up with a distributor that is close to you so you wont have to pay a fortune in import tax and shipping. Then again, if you contact them and you are inside the warranty period or reasonably close, they may even replace the unit for you. You have to call them as soon as possible though.

EDIT: I just realised that I bought my BM5as nearly 2 years ago and owing to technical problems, moving house etc have only managed to use them (briefly) in the past 2 months. They still smell factory fresh and dust hasnt even settled on them yet.

i purchase my BM5A. now sir from last 15 days one of my bm5a's tweeter has stop working.we asked the dealer for replacement,they are asking for payment for new one. as bm5a's maual says that bm5a are having the self protection. after opening the tweeter one of our local engineer said that it is the dynaudio's manifactureing falt.the aluminium voice coil broke down from the bend and loose the contact.our local engineer was fail to solder it as the voice coil is made up of aluminium.
sir i am facing bad days in my recording studio just becouse of bm5a's tweeter is not working.sir it is also spoiling the dynaudio image in the market as the production has stoped in the studio.
