hockey on HD is fantastic if i had HD i would watch it ALL the time!!! anyhow, i think you pay a lot for cable but if you seriously watch it it's not THAT bad. i would get rid of cinemax, showtime and TMC though, renting movies might be cheaper.

I pay the cable for the house that i live in with my friends and i cant say enough how much i miss time warner from when i lived with my parents. we pay $123 a month for boxes for 4 tv's and only hbo and starz, plus opt oline.

when i was with my parents they paid about $135 for 5 boxes, all the movie channels, on demand for all of them, plus road runner.

i hate....hate optimum online. i am directly connected to the router via a cable and there are times even when no one else in the house is online that i cant get on internet explorer or firefox. i dont have a problem connecting to aim, so why cant i get onto the internet?

also, why should i have to pay an extra $5 a month for on demand for the channels that i already pay for as a part of a package? if i am not mistaken time warner doesnt do that. the hbo package should include hbo on demand.

also if anyone knows how to scroll down to the rest of the info about a movie when using the info button on the remote, please tell me. i have tried everything to figure this out.

so in summary i hate cablevision. i dont know why everyone says opt online is so great, i had much better luck being connected to the router in my parents house with the same number of computers as i do now.

also, is it just me or do they show the same movies on digital cable over and over again. there are so many movies out there, when the put a crappy one on, why does it have to be repeated twice a day for almost a week before they change it? this seems to be the case with most of the channels, regardless of hbo, starz, showtime, or cinnemax.

if i wasnt moving in about 5 months, i would seriously look into seeing if verizon supplies cable in my area. if i get one more phone call from cablevision asking me if i want to upgrade to phone service (even though i have told them no cause we all use our cell phones in the house) one more time i am going to kill someone.

sorry i couldnt offer any advice, i just needed to vent cause i have been unhappy with cablevision ever since i moved back in march.

verizon will be offering FIOS as an internet alternative, i hear its supposed to be a top notch fiber opt line which will probably destroy any cable oriented data transfer. the only downside well not downside but the only real questionable aspect is that it is priced competitively so don't expect much of a discount from RR's 39.99/month rate.

I'm not so sure its your internet provider, it sounds as if you have computer issues if indeed your AIM connects but your IE doesn't.

Also could be a combination of your router and the computers connected to it...got to love troubleshooting

I just switched from verizon to TWC last month. The reason was because everytime it rained my internet would go down. I complained complained and complained. They sent people out multiple times couldnt find a problem on my end or theyres so I said enough is enough. I am not going to pay for service that I can only get when the weather is good.

Verzion only offered ADSL through their phone line service. Since the digital push, many 'phone' oriented backend systems switched to VOIP thus allowing our old school analog telephone system to be transmitted at a more efficient rate with digital switches and routers. Since then, the backends to most communications systems have seen advances in technology, such as VOIP.

You probably experienced this because verizon still runs the normal analog signals through their telephone wires and poles and don't convert the signal until you reach an area hub. Probably where your line drop was happening.

FIOS for that matter is fiber optics direct to your house...light transmitted signals should not receive any line degradation or interference there after. How do I know? I have a Verizon pole installed in my parents backyard, does it suck? Yup but luckily it's hidden behind my parents shed.

I heard about FIOS through one of the workers who came to my parents place saying they are upgrading the pole and hub into a digital switch to expand the bandwidth for FIOS. I said ok, he gave me a pamphlet about FIOS and yup, fiber opts to your home...
