they were gonna win that match the way they played for 77 minutes but nonetheless, this shows one more time why xabi alonso has one of the best eyes in soccer today! his vision is terrific, if you watch the reds play, the things he does on the field sometimes, the passes he makes, the plays he creates out of nothing, he's truly one of the most underrated players in the game. after gerard, he's their next most valuable player. |
I dunno if he's underrated, but you're right in saying that on his day, he's a superb player. I feel Gerrard should be partnering him in the center of the park, but Rafa preferes Sissoko who for my money shows more grit then actual creativity. Liverpool played well for the win, but they still look an unbalanced side. There's a major problem with that team when Gerrad isn't playing down the middle. Yes, he can play on the wing...but he's not as effective when he has to come inside to look for scoring opportunities.
I'm a little disappointed that Mark Gonzalez and Pennant aren't being deployed more often as out and out wingers. That would open up pools attacking options and leave the centre for Gerrard and his attacking runs.
