i really dont see the point in this unless they only run it from union to downsview. there is an all night bus that runs every 10-15 min on yonge that does the job just fine. i guess the only problem is waiting for the bus in the winter time when it gets really cold.
i also dont think that the trains would run every 5 min like they do in the off peak hours.

I disagree. We dont need it. What we need is a better subway system during the day. At night, most of the subway cars would be empty anyways; yet the TTC would still have to pay for all the security and drivers. Unless the cars would run every 15-20 minutes I really don't see any point to this, other than another reason for the TTC to ramp up fare's.

its faster to take the subway whether its day or night. Also warmer in the winter. It just more appealing overall to the average rider.
And the TTC claims that it wouldnt cost much and i dont doubt that. And if they have problems then maybe they can divert the funds from the subway car order that we dont need (ive been in cities where subways that look far worse than ours are working just fine) or they can use funds from the st clair right of way that no one wants.
The ttc is always crying about money yet they always seem to find it for the most frivolous of projects. Why not actually increase service instead?
Im all for this.

i disagree. i personally took the 320 yonge night bus plenty of times and i got to finch station from front street in 30 min. the subway takes the same amount of time when i take it during the day or later in the evening.
remember, traffic at night is very very light and the buses mostly make their stops at the same stations as they subway would. also, the buses are safer in that they have the request a stop feature where people, especially single women, can request the driver to stop closer to their destination instead of a ttc stop.

That line was going to be my example too. Union to Steeles Ave takes 55min during the day. At 4am with the 320 line it takes 40-45min.

The NIGx2A made a very good point. Kinda pointless. All they need to do is add more buses to vomit comet routes and everything will be fine.

not to mention that people who would want to go between finch and steeles would have to get off and take a bus.
i would see how making the subway 24 hours would be good if we had more lines, but making one line 24 hours is pointless, especially where bus service is more than adequate.

It's about fucking time. Obviously the people in this thread who say it's pointless have not taken the vomet comet enough times to know how much of an unpleseant experience it is. In the winter, a lot of times I won't even bother going out knowing that I have to take the comet home.
In the context of the benefit to society, as Orko said, this will probably lower the incidences of drunk driving.
While the service during the day could do with some improving, as a customer of the TTC, I would value 24hr service way more than any other improvement to the TTC that they could make at this time.

Uhmmm i need it? And i know a whole bunch of people in richmond hill who would love for the subway to finch at all hours of the night! I don't care if i have to pay slightly more to get home as long as i'm headed there rather than having to stay the night at friends' houses downtown!

please please please make the subway 24 hrs
i bartended last year, so i was often walking the streets at 5am, trying to get home (bloor and islington)
b/c of the way the buses ran it could take up to an hour and 45 to get home. i hated waiting outside in the cold, with nobody but random hotdog guys there for security.
since i'm planning on bartending again, i would love to have the subway up and running..bloor/danforth line please

a fare zone system like they use in a lot of places around the world could help alleviate that problem. i know for a fact that the Vomit Comet buses are packed at night.. there could be room for profit there
