aren't there MIDI beatclocks for this? i've never used ableton in conjunction with decks (except for a quick fuckaround on a friend's XONE:3D) but aren't there things that take care of feeding ableton the tempo of your current music, which in turn, allows you to seemlessly layer loops over it?

Yes there are such things.

then why do a bunch of paople bitch about how hard ableton is to keep in time, and how hard it would be to use with FS/Serato?

Actually it is pretty damn easy, especially when you have a midiclock hooked up, but its still pretty easy even if you don't, just requires abit more work, there isn't a whole lot Ableton can't do, for me the ONLY thing it lacks is fun factor, maybe if I had a XONE:3D or other top notch midi controller I would be well into it, but with just a keyboard and mouse right now, Ableton is fuckin boring to use.

I dunno why people would complain, Ableton can have problems if the tracks you are slicing up on the fly are very complex, so that can effect how the beats line up, as for getting in sync with your turntables, well it depends on if you are controlling it with a midiclock or doing it manually, but throwing Serato or FS into the loop really doesn't complex things IMO, not unless your running both apps on the same computer.

It's hard to keep in time with a deck playing a regular record / cd playing a regular cd...

Although a midi controller with a slider you assign to the project tempo would solve this, giving you a nice little deck-like pitch slider.
