You actually have to apply tactics in Total war games.
For example, archers are good against peasants and lightly armoured units.
Cavalry charging into spearmen is bad. Cavalry, esp. knights and such, running into flanks and rear of enemy is good.
Keep some light cavalry for routing retreating enemy units.
Unless you're really desperate, don't commit your general into battle. If he dies, the morale of your army drops significantly.
Keep some units in reserve and commit them when you see a break in enemy line, or need that final push to break the main enemy line, or to plug a gap in your line.
Keep some fast units to prevent enemy from flanking.
Use land features. High ground is good defensive position. Forests can be used to ambush. Plug bridges with strong defensive units and attrition the attacking enemy units while peppering them with archers from distance. |
Thanks have pritty much worked this out, i use cavery to flank the enemy and attack they general as when you get him you pritty much win, now i own half of the map and spending most of my time trying to stop revolts

You're impressively stupid, that's for sure. I'd give you advice, but I cannot in good conscience take any action which could potentially increase the odds that you'll reproduce. I'm sorry. |
