Yeah the Never Enough gig at Turnmills went really well thanks, was absolutely rammed and everyone was really up for it!

Although in all honesty I didn't use the EFX that much... just a bit of filtering and a few transform stutters here and there.

Hi mate,

This is a good sounding mix, although I found the sound quality of it a little poor. I think, this made it hard to listen to properly in my opinion.

I have heard a couple of you techno sets before, and this does not rank as one of the top ones. Saying that, the tracklist was sick, and I liked the break-beat and vocal samples.

You mentioned you would like to tighten up your beatmatching. I would suggest using a program live ableton that sets all your tracks to the same bpm - and as long as your still doing crazy technical stuff behind the decks nobody gives a shit that you do not have to beatmatch - it almost a time waste for technical d.j's that just want to play loads of tracks, clips and samples. You can import your tracks and set them to a certain bpm, export and burn them so you are still using the cdj's - eddie does it

Anyway , top mix pal as usual - wish I was there at turnmills!

Yeah I know this doesn't really "compete" with my other techno mixes, it's just supposed to be something a bit different to showcase the kind of thing I was playing at that gig.

I'm surprised you said you thought it was bad quality... I know my soundcard's not amazing but it's not that bad! I know a lot of the tracks are distortion-ridden which makes tracks like 'Watch The Weight' and 'My Existence' sound pretty lo-fi... but that's just how they're made! Also a lot of tunes are played off vinyl so there's some crackle and fuzz from that. Does it sound bad all the way through to you (as if it's a general recording quality issue) or does it change from track to track?

I'm not going to start ripping everything to the same tempo because for me it's part of the fun of it... I agree I don't care if a DJ's not beatmatching live when I go to see either them if they're doing lots of technical stuff, but that's not for me. And saying that Eddie does it doesn't make me want to do it any more... not only can I not stand the guy, but I'm very into doing everything in my own way anyway.

It's just gonna have to be a bit more attention to getting it tight as I can on my part! Probably doesn't help that I'm still using 2 CDJ100s alongside my CDJ800, puts a little bit of extra strain on as I can't get them as tight in the first place and have to keep adjusting.

The scratching was done on vinyl. I'm still yet to burn all of my scratch samples off on CD.

I have the mighty dmp-555 set up with my cdj800, so I know how you feel about the cdj-100's. They just not the same.

I was curious about the scratching as I have jusy sold me techs, so I will be looking to do a bit of scratching on the cdj.

Tell us why you can't stand eddie then, from your style I had guessed you might have been a fan - how wrong was I!

I also reckon, with all this albeton getting big, beatmatching may also be something of the past - just a thought.

I mentioned the quality, as it was in 192 kps throughout, which, guessing your tracks are 320 kps, does them no justice. I did notice those other tracks too, being lo-fi. For a short mix like this, it would have been better in 256 kps at least.

Re. Eddie - the man used to be one of the most promising up and coming DJs, loads of skill and loads of creative ideas, bringing something new to the table every time you saw him. He also used to be a very nice friendly guy who took time to talk to people. But since he's "made it" he's got so wedged up his own arse that he just sticks to the same 2 or 3 tricks which he completely over-does in every set... it's not 'intelligent' anymore and he rarely even plays new tunes! The last few times I've seen him his sets have just been jammed full of the anthems that everyone else has made big for him. Add to that the fact that he's now become very rude (obviously trying to be a bit too much of a 'rock star') to punters, promoters and club staff. Not impressed.

And yeah, beatmatching could well become a thing of the past at some point not too far from now, which I'm happy to go along with... but it's not something I'll be doing until I'm working completely digitally. As much as anything else, I haven't got time to go through and timestretch all of my records to the same tempo!

I've always thought 192k is fine... maybe it's just my rubbish ears not being able to tell too much of a difference!
