Whats wrong with you guys, the whole purpose of a DJ is to present music to people, we exist becuase of the producers, we mix "their" songs, not ours, we cater to them, not the other way around. its just stupid and pointless to complain about how a producers starts off his/her song, and its immature, especially if its coming from a DJ.

Convenience is all this post is about.

And that's why i agree. Yes it is more convenient when a song doesn't begin on an offbeat. I agree with that comment.

However, as i said, i usually just listen to the begin (knowing your music is another way of saying it, as mentioned above) and then i'll know that there is an off beat.

That is all..

by feck the theory i meant it doesn't matter why this beat is there. It's just there. Whether or not it has a purpose is beside the point, it's purely about the convenience of being able to use the very first beat as a phrase starter while mixing. Whether or not you agree with that is of course another thing.

i would stating a simple point which most of you dont know what im talking about. you read any top djs views on things like this and they will say a producer shouldn't make awkward starts that are unmixable. msot djs have to alter the start of tracks with software to make them more suitable for mixing. i produce also so when i begin a track i make it begin with mixing capibilities either by having a smalll intro then a good kick drum and bass or start with a simple 4*4 kick pattern.

Why not enjoy the challenge and let the producers push the envelope?

Seriously, I never heard anything like that before from top DJ's. The very fact that you found a way to mix it buy dropping it on the seventh beat makes it 'mixable'. I personally just say "and, one" and hold the record on the 'second' beat. As for convenience... what about it? Why should things be practical? That sounds like the death of ingenuity, and this case musicality. As long as its doable.

But perhaps there is something to this convenience thing. Yes, I shall send a decree across the spheres. From hence forth all Trance music shall be exactly 135BPM and in the key of C major (I like F but it not very convenient its got a flat), and absolutely no PICKUPS!

something like "Majestic" from Menno de Jong or "Emotional Breeze" from Foreign Force where the song starts and you think you got the right beat but when the beat sets in, your in a totally different place.

God, i hate it when producers add a crazy loud reversed symbol and all kinds of other shiite, just before the first beat sets in. suckes when the stylus jumps a groove

Hell, there should be enough places in a track for your to start a mix. Don't always limit yourself to starting on the first beat. That's what everyone else does... try something different.

In time you will develop an internal clock anyway and this wont be an issue.

Cheers
Nem
