I would really like an intelligent conversation on the topic but its way too difficult if you dont state your points of view. I mean what are you suggesting then, just stop GE and go all organic? Did you know that organic farming also rapes the land and depeletes the soil, and also causes erosion? Why not just control the industry and look for better technology? Who can you support the idea that no technology is going to be able to help us create sustainable development, i mean you've said nothing with this post. |
Farming in general harms soil. I've only seen natives in South America to my knowledge who use a complex method that doesnt damage soil (described well in a book Last Hours Of Ancient Sunlight by Thom Hartmann).
I am not all against genetic engineered foods. I praised hybrid farming techniques. Its all the biological and genetical DNA and structure changes done to plants that makes me and others worried. It is weakening the plants, and making them succeptable to disease that can wipe out entire agriculture, and then there's super bugs than now require much more pesticides, more work ... and all that ends up in your water, food, air ... its a long topic, just watch the video please ;-)
First, we need to immediately stop destroying environment (cutting down rainforest, release of pollution and chemicals in water and air, abuse of soil, etc). Secondly, we need to decrease the world population. Third, we need to devise better educational programs and system to protect the environment, because it is the most important thing - when it is damaged beyond repair we will not only destroy ourselves but all other life.
