Oh man...it's been a whiel since I OC'ed mine (3000+ Winchester)...but I know you have to play around with a lot more than just the FSB in bios. You gotta fool around with the multiplier, voltages, as well as keeping hte memory ratio at a certain level. I managed to OC mine by 150mhz, but I know of people who have increased it by as much as 600mhz using stock HSF.

Still though, I don't think it's worth all the trouble. There's too many variables you have to take into account such as compatible mobo, some luck on the CPU since some of them are less OC-friendly than others, good RAM. Unless you wanna get a bigger e-pen0r than it's pointless.

So should I use Linux or OSX instead of Vista?

To the person who was asking if it hogs more RAM, the simple answer is "yes". Although, that's not necessarily a bad thing - free RAM is essentially a waste of your resources. At optimum, you want a good RAM-management system on your OS coupled with almost full RAM use.

However, what is bad is that game performance under Vista is worse than on XP. Way worse. Anywhere from 20 to a whopping 40% worse. This is of course based on the current RCs, so maybe the final version, once all th debugging and logging is taken out of it will be faster.

Ive been runnin 64 bit vista for almost a month now, and just installed it on a new machine i just finished putting together.

New machine:
Asus A8N 32-SLI-Deluxe NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.40GHz Processor
250 gig western digital SATA HDD 7200rpm 16mb cache(x2 one with vista, one with XP media center)
XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX 256MB PCIe w/Dual DVI video card
M-Audio delta Audiofile 2496 sound card
2.5 gig pc3200 400mhz RAM

The old machine was the same but with a compaq sr1850NX all in one mother board with an ATI radeon xpress on board video card, and a athelon 64 2.2 ghz processor.

Vista runs a little faster on the new machine, but probably only because of the dual core CPU, and the video card isnt sharing my RAM anymore. I had no graphic issues running off the old onboard video adaptor, but the ATI beta driver never installed properly like this nVIDIA one did, and Im overall quite happy I have as many apps working on this 64 bit platform as I do. I was expecting the worst.

I still cant use Cubase, and alot of my other music making/editing apps or use my M-audio sound card, as M-Aduio are being lame asses and not releasing any beta drivers for vista. Same with Logitech, they are being gay and not releasing any beta drivers as well, which is a pain when your used to double clicking with the scroll wheel on the mouse, or want to use your web cam. So, XP is still being used by me, even though, Like Virtigo mentioned, Im using Vista more and more.

If you have dual-core, THEN Linux is the way to go. A friend of mine has a Core2Duo laptop running Linux that compiles 350% faster than P4 workstation... at 1400 fewer Mhz.

June or July of 2007, which at this point Im guessing isnt very realistic, with all the missing script, bugs, and problems Vista still has.

For a Release Candidate, I am not fully convinced this is ready for the prjected release date.

Dont get me wrong, its running fairly good, but have a poke through some of the Microsoft Technet forums and see the serious issues people are having. I just dont personally think its ready, which in turn is going to be good for us still using the beta so I dont have to fork out the cash as soon for the official copy.

Im starting to get hooked, and dont think I could go back to using XP after using Vista for half a year, and working out most of the bugs I have now.
