if someone was to get a widescreen....say 23 or 24" whats a good one to get? with high resolution..

I'm used to dual screen setup. Imo it's really nice to have one screen dedicated to plugins and the mixer, and the other screen for arrangement.

It's not so cool when playing games or watching videos obviously, but I watch my movies on 100" screen anyway.

You would need to have 2560x1600 widescreen resolution (or 2048x1536 4:3) to have more working space than dual 1280x1024 monitors.

If I had the money to spend, I wouldn't think twice about getting one of those 30" Dell 2560x1600 monitors though.. But for that kind of amount of hard earned cash, there's so many other things to buy.

a standard 19" tft with a 4:3 aspect ratio has it's max on 1280x1024, a widescreen on 1400x900 or something alike. In the end this means widescreen has less space, even though the diagonal is the same. As I posted a page earlier, you might want to have a look at this:


Also I don't think the more inches you have measures up to the cost increase. 19" is decently prices these days, I'd stick with that for a while. On the other hand 17" isn't that bad either and the decent priced 19"'s support up to the same resolution as the 17"'s.

It's true that there is a HUGE price difference between getting an equally sized (resolution-wise) Widescreen instead of two 19" screen.

With the two 19" screens, I in fact have a resolution of 2*1280x1024 = 2560x1024.

The Dell 30" Widescreen has a resolution of 2560x1600, so I guess this means it does have more space? At least it has equal resolution in horizontal direction.

The price is another story though... It cost about €2000, which is almost 7x the price I got one 19" screen for...

because you need the width in your playlist etc. dual screens doesnt give u enough width, it just means u can put all your crap on the other :P

perhaps i haven't made my point clear... what i was trying to say is i would prefer to work on 1 single widescreen than with dual screen setup. of course, money wise the widescreen would be pricier and dual standard screen with more space but do u really need that extra screen? i don't think i need... 20" widescreen or 24" widescreen would be just fine... 30"? i'll just wait for the price drop...

i'm working with 2 benq 20" widescreens which gives me a resolution of 3360x1050 and it's just perfect for cubase.. i wouldn't like to miss it.

lets not forget that the 30" screens (both apple and dell) require a dual-link DVI output from your video card. which means that on top of the cost of the monitor, you will also need a pretty hefty GPU upgrade.

personally, i prefer 2 monitors. 2 30" apple cinema displays would suit me just fine.

2 screens all the way IMO. Ideally, 2 widescreens. Right now I've got 2 19" both running 1600x1200 and I could still use more space.

You see more of the sides, you just have to adjust the graphics. The only time a widescreen stretch the imgage, is when you whatch a movie or a program that is recorded in a 4:3 format instead of 16:9.
