i use the shure sm57/m8 and get great results. its all about mic placement as well and of course a decent pre-amp but for now i get very good results which i'm pretty satisfied with.
i record my ugly ass singing for my band and guitars with them

You'd get more detail and less noise if you used a large diaphragm condenser

shure sm57 ftw.. they can do practiaccly anything from vocals to snare drums, and it can even take a beating..
