Ah, well, considering I'm not even FROM Australia and that some Aussies told me that Sydney has the biggest trance scene in the country and Melbourne more of a "bar scene" that's into house, I figured this would be the thread to start. Different perceptions from different people.

So if Melbourne is a bigger home to trance than Sydney is. Jump to that! What well-known EDM artists are from Australia?

Mike Nichol should be up there soon.. he's about the biggest I'd say in terms of trance..

Infusion and Anthony Pappa are probably our biggest exports. Luke Chable got a lot of recognition too.

MORE OF A BAR SCENE?
haha
yeh that is true, Melbourne has heaps of bars, HOWEVER, we DO have some rocking club nights & some rocking parties thrown from time to time.....& it caters for most musical genres...

Melbourne pwns sydneys

where else would u get crazy biatches like MissyM ?

The trance scene down here is good because most of the people who listen to it are big fans of the music. Havnt been europe yet to see what its like and im sure it would be frekkin crazy, but from what i see on videos and stuff it sure looks insane. Melbourne crowds are much smaller but the people are generally nice and the community is usually very close.

We have a few decent producers out here, a few already named above (steve may, luke chable, mike nichol, pappa etc)

As long as the scene is kept alove down here il be happy.

there are a few bars around melbourne, i even play at one. THey are cool because the crowds are small and nice to deal with, generally get a good reaction from small crowds. The good thing however, is the big events are only done a few times a year, so when they do happen they are fuckin awesome full stop.

someone needs to re: title this thread seriously

MissyM... I don't know what you're so bitter about. For sure you get people who go overboard on the drug scence (alcohol included) at any parties even in Europe too. Unfortunaty our society (doesn't in general teach children about moderation and responsibe drug use (not to mention educating truthfully on the risks and what research or facts are out there are) Australian politics really aren't as open minded with harm reduction and truthful drug education initiatives such as Europe (pill testing to name one) so yes you will probably find more 'messed up' people in the Australian scene. It's just one of those things you accept for the time being

What I wes trying to say before is that I was surprised by how big and how fresh the trance/hard dance scene is in Melbourne. It reminded me of the big once a year raves they have in Germany and Switzerland. Yet in Melbourne it's probably more a normal weekend!! I luved it how its kinda normal for ravers to wonder around town in Melbourne during the day going to day clubs all dressed up in raver gear.. ect ect becasue there is so much going on! Only the other day I was looking though some of the bonus stuff on the 2nd DVD of Melbourne Shuffler. I was amazed at the footage of the Melbourne street parties. It so reminds me of Europe or at least I am guessing maybe what the street parties where when the were getting stated many years ago in Europe. It's cool to think that rest of the public can't hide from the fact that there is such a big rave or trance/hard dance scene in Melbourne and probably just have to accept it's as part of our society.... I think this kind of awareness is good for our society and helps to destroy the pulic fear of the rave community that has been pushed politically. I'm sure we are all aware of the bullshit that tv programs like Today Tonight or A Current Affair churn out.

When I think of Sydney's rave, trance/hard dance scene, yeah it is quite big but I think it is still hiding from the public view. There really isn't any decent day clubs setup and nothing I know of that would come close to a street party. Also I think there is probably a tougher political or at least law enforcement attitute. It sucks seeing the overwhelming police presence outside the raves at Sydney once it ends or even roaming round accross the dance floor with dogs ect in the middle. I mean out of many raves I've been to and out of the thousands and thousands of people I've seen I've yet to see a fight breakout or something serious happen such as weapons being pulled, racial or gang violence ect ect that would warrant such an extreme ammount of police presence. I think the drug safety issue (alcohol included) is better left in the hands onsite safety and medical workers who are already doing a great job at raves/clubs.

Alright... sorry for the vent... I'm done talking about politics again.
